Is anybody using the Callaham tremolo block for Stratocasters? Heard a lot of good things about these and would like the input of this forum. Thinking about changing a couple or all my Strats. Thanks.

Heynewquy,
I have a hardtail strat and have never used a Callaham tremolo block for Stratocasters but I do have something for you to consider, or other members to comment on.
DeTemple Guitars offers titanium parts including saddles and trem blocks. I purchased the titanium saddles for my hardtail about a year ago and they essentially did what was advertised. "...Titanium gives your guitar a quicker response, overwhelmingly long sustain, and a clearer more precise sound…" To my ears this seemed to be what happened though I would have not used the word overwhelmingly. So as a check to see if I was delusional I put back on the old saddles and went to the Peterson tuner for validation. The tuner validated my feelings. The notes held longer with the titanium saddles and it was much easier to set intonation and tune to pitch. So all in all I have no buyers remorse…except for the $115 :-).
Now DeTemple offers titanium trem blocks at $225 per copy… WHOA!… but… in the never ending quest… birthday… GAS… On the other hand that is the cost of a high end pedal and how many of those do I have sitting in a box on the floor that I never use.
If anyone has used the DTemple block I would be interested in their comments.

I have a Callahan trem in my custom Dunlavet Strat. Don Dunlavey in Atlanta is one of the finest craftsmen I've ever known, and his 40 years of Fender guitar experience has probably had him try everything imaginable on the market. He suggeted the Callhan as the best vintage-style tremolo he's ever used, and they are OEM on his "from scratch" Strats. I can tell you that the one in mine is pretty much perfect. Nice balance, good tone, etc. Very sturdy, and certainly one of the finest trem systems around.

I put one on a v neck strat and it made a big difference over the american standard block it came with. I also have one on my Clapton strat and it is better, but it didin't make as much of a change as the american vintage style block is already pretty good. I got them both from a place in AZ. called Specialty Guitars. The owner there is very sharp and a nice guy.

I installed one on my standard strat and it made a huge difference. The block that came off was crappy zinc alloy and the callaham block weighed maybe 3 times more and went in like a dream. More sustain, more harmonics, sweeter sound. No question, it works if you are increasing the mass, but replacing an existing steel block with the Callaham may not make such a difference. For low end strats such as the standard, changing the pickups (I installed fralin vintage hots) and the trem block made a pretty decent sounding guitar.
