I posted this in the ask Myles amp section as well...
I currently have an RX JR. I love the amp and the tone that I get from it. After speaking with Brent I decided to put in an 5AR4 to tighten up the low end a bit. It done great through several practices and a gig. The next practice I could tell the amp started to sound a little different, I didn't know what but I could definitely tell. It got really bright in the mix at practice and almost sounded 'sterile' or brittle (for lack of a better word) in the treble. I had the treble turned down already on 2 I believe. I turned the treble up and it added too much and got really ice-picky but still brittle sounding. If I turn the treble down it looses all treble and gets really muddy. It's almost like it lost the chime. There is almost no 'harmonic content' so to speak in the treble frequencies. This thing normally sounds pretty thick and punchy even with the TE-50 Telecaster pickup I have in my guitar, with tons of harmonics.
Speaker cab is 2x12 with a Blue and H30 at 4 Ohms.
I bypassed all my pedals and went straight in with a cord. No change. I tried a different cord. No change. I put the 5Y3 back in. Not any better.
I am thinking this is most likely a tube issue. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

How old are the power tubes (or better, how many hours are on them)? Also, I don't know your other EQ settings, but try turning the mids up a lot - like 3 o'clock.

Honestly I'm not sure. I bought the amp used and I have had it for a little more than a year so that's why my first guess is the tubes. They are GT #5's. I have some ordered, Brent recommended some Electro Harmonix as they have been having good luck with them.
I normally keep my Mids on 8, which is exactly 3:00.
Thanks!

change the power tubes. mine did something a little while ago and change in power tubes was the ticket. worn out tubes can do all sorts of funky things.

I will definitely change the tubes next. Have a new set of electro harmonix ordered. I was looking into 7189's also, like the ones from thetubestore.com.

You may also want to get a spare EF86 if you don't already have one - try to locate a good NOS tube.

New power tubes seemed to help. A new balanced phase inverter helped even more. Next will be the ef86, now to find a decent sounding one that won't break the bank!
