I just got a 93 ash Strat with locking tuners. I changed the strings, with no wrap on the tuner post, as instructed. I sounded like the low E and A strings were a little "dead". A couple of days later, I changed strings again and gave them all a little wrap, as much as normal tuners. I experienced better tone this way. Does anyone else know about this, which way is better?

i'm trying to get my mind around your situation and the only thing i can come up with is that putting the extra wind around the post changed your string angle over the nut. know what i'm sayin? the more wraps the sharper the angle. three is usually optimum unless you have a string tree and then it shouldn't really matter cause it creates the angle for you, but i still always do three wraps just because it has always worked for me and you know what they say: if it ain't broke...

Foxx, I have a Parker Fly Deluxe with locking Sperzel's. I never had this experience? I normally wrap strings on my other guitars, but not on this one. The strings are very vibrant and bouncy.

I've got locking Gotohs on my Anderson and have not experienced any problems either. I just pull'em tight and fire up the peg winder. I get maybe 1/2 a turn. Sounds like Charlienc is on the right track about the nut.

I was told to set the locking tuners as follows. LowE 5'oclock A 4'oclock D 3 o'clock G 3 o'clock B 2 o'clock HighE 1 o'clock this is as you are looking over top of them. Pull through, tighten, and you're good to go. I have had alot of luck doing it this way.

Thanks guys. I think that I had just worn those strings out in one day, and kept thinking that maybe something was wrong with my tuners. I was not used to this guitar either, first weekend that I bought it.
