I've been wondering what you guys use? Every since I got my Z Wreck right at a year ago, I've used used the Comfort setting almost exclusively. I just like the way the amp "feels" better. Plus it sounds "smoother" to my ears. I've noticed a few folks say they use the "Speed" setting, but never hear much, or anything about the "Comfort" setting...except in the Demo's- Let's hear your thoughts?

I've said both equally because I've still got a lot of experimenting to do with my Wreck. Maybe with a little more time I'll settle on one more than the other.

Should have mine in a few days but I'm thinking speed all the way, I like it in your face and I never have enough headroom.
I'll vote soon rp

You know, I posted a question about the comfort/speed switch, and not many people chimed in... do people even USE this thing? I can't find a demo showing the difference switching between comfort & speed... except the one from Z-fest, where Mike himself is switching it while Dave Baker plays, but the audio on the video isn't good enough to hear any difference.
Anybody know of a demo that showcases the difference between comfort & speed?

I suspect it subtle and would not translate well in an online demo. Very well said Keith. The Speed setting is like it says...a faster attack with an ever so slight volume bump & slightly more headroom, while Comfort is a tad softer attack with a tad more sag. I like Comfort best...but not too many folks seem to want to talk about it... Either way..no extreme difference. Nice feature though....I'd guess tubes have a longer life with less plate voltage. (Comfort)

(Comfort) I agree ! A few of my non-Z amps have a 'modern/vintage' switch and I suspect it's something similar. It is a subtle effect on the 3 or 4 varied amps I have. Keith

So far mine has stayed on Comfort and I have no need to change it.

Comfort mostly, when I remember the switch is back there I flick it over to speed for a bit but I always seem to find myself going back to comfort.

The Z Wreck Demo with Dave Baker on DrZ's website shows the difference. fast forward to 5:07 on the video . it starts there. Use a good set of head phones. I'd say it Breaks up better on comfort . Speed is a bit more tight if I am using the correct term. Look at the video. Dave's playing a Strat. It's real easy to tell what the difference is.

I'll admit to FFWDING thru that demo, and missed it. SO- it's very subtle, and NOTHING like triode/pentode... in triode, alot of gain is lost, and there is an OBVIOUS difference between triode & pentode. I would say the difference between comfort & speed is NOT obvious. SO- am I to assume Dave was playing "speed" the whole demo, EXCEPT when he demonstrates the switch?

So far, "comfort", which is NOT the "Paisley setting" is winning...

I'm pretty sure mine will be 'super-glued' in the comfort position when I get it next month ;D

Surprised you haven't got a few more responses on this, it's a good question and I reckon there are quite a few Wreck owners around here!

I'm partial to the speed setting. I like the "punch" it gives.

I've been running on the Comfort setting for months now and lovin' it. Sort of forgot the option was back there. Love the sag and compression feel of it. But looks like I need to flip that switch now that I'm acclimated to that setting and see what the other feels like! Will report back when I cop a feel!

Well ......... I already got around to "flip the switch"!!! Pretty cool. The comfort is all soft and squushy and awesome. And the speed just tightens it all up a little, reminds me a bit more of the Stang Ray. Both very hip, both very fun. A nice twist to an amp I'd be happy with in either mode if there was only one setting! Think I'm gonna run it on the Speed for a while and let that one sink in again for a month or two.

Even though I don't own "Wreck" I would venture to say it's a safe bet that the more you turn it up the greater sonic differences between the comfort/speed settings will be both heard and felt to a much great degree. It's just the nature of the beast; tube amps were meant to be pushed! Just ask the SRZ65 owners. I always hear how good the M.V. on that bad-boy is but I'll bet the house they will tell you that sucker shines like no other when the windows are shaking! Everything from the clean snap, low end thump, touch dynamics, and the overall sonic landscape is simply better when you are moving some air! My advise is to chase the family out of the house for a few hours. Grab your "number one" and rotate all forms of equalization to the right (especially the volume). Put a good spanking on those tubes and switch between the settings after you play your favorite set of licks, runs and muted arpeggios! Oh, and don't forget to apologize to the neighbors later! Merks

Merks I've had my Wreck a few months but I haven't had the opportunity to really push it at high volume yet . . . it's such a loud amplifier! But I'm going to take it for a spin to a rehearsal room to give it the attention it needs. Then I will probably get the full effect of comfort vs speed. Good report there from gotmojo.

I like using the comfort setting; it covers newer country tones when i push the front with my RC or EP booster and breaks up just right without a boost for older country tunes.
