I am using the MAZ 8 at gigs. We don't mic any instruments and only vocals are in the PA. We are a loud-ish cover band and I had to get the other guys to bring it down a little bit, because at our normal gig volume, I was getting lost in some parts of some songs going up against a Ghia, Bass, Drums and Keys.
So now after a few gigs and a few rehearsals we play at a lower overall level and it has helped the whole band in a couple of ways. Our vocals and harmonies are now tighter and we are more dynamic over-all. The natural drive of the MAZ 8 is a beautiful thing. It sings!
Point being, for somebody like me in a loud band playing the sports bars locally, this is a great amp. VERY GIGGABLE! Try it, you'll like it! Thanks Z-Amps!

Hey Paul, great report and advice! I like that it brought the band volume down - always a good thing in my book and you can actually HEAR each other better! Looking forward to getting to hear this amp at John's place one of these days ;D

I'm with you, Paul. We're reconfiguring our band -- down to one guitar (me), at least for a bit -- and the MAZ 8 looks to be a key part of this. Gotta fix a tube issue first. Hope to do a club gig this weekend. (MAZ 8 was fine at an outdoor gig, but I couldn't really hear it properly.)

Doctorice, I had the EL84 die within the first hour of jamming my new Maz 8 last week. Doc sent me out a new EL84EH everything worked fine last night. Full band practice tonight so I"ll get to dail it in at gig level and see how she mixes in. The Maz 8 jus quit when that tube went. Still had power and no fuse blown. I seem to hear a rattle/ funky noise just before she went silent. Is that anything like what happened to yours? Are you planning on changing out any of the tubes? I'm curious about different tubes and how they sound different. Never changed anything but the KT66's in my Route 66 from JJ to Goldlion and it was a good change. I guess if I'm gonna play these nice tube amps I better get busy and learn about these things. Thanks, Kim

The Maz Studio 8 is on my list. We too are play lower and hearing more . just practice Smugglers Blues last night for Wednesday Nitght Blues. 2 pages of lyrics.

Kim, I'm in the process of tracking it down. Revrand had V1 go out on him, DR Z suggested I check V3 (as he's had some problems with the current batch of tubes he's using for that) and the sound problem is not unlike what happened when an EL84 went on the Z Wreck.
So far V1 seems OK. I'm double checking V3 but won't get to it until late today.
Z service is top notch, so I have no worries about getting things set right.

I have no idea what he stuck in front of the amp. Also he neglected to give me and the rest of the band any monitor feed of the guitar, so I have no idea what it sounded like.

Typical jaded sound guy thinking: 1. All guitarists play too loud 2. All guitarists only want to hear themselves 3. No-one else in the band wants to hear the guitarist ergo, NO monitor feed of the guitarist!

Hey Paul....is the Ghia player okay with turning down? Seems we've all been irritated in the past by anyone who would dare ask us to roll that "Vol" knob any direction but clock-wise. Maybe he should get himself an M8, too.
And, all you guys can't complain too much...I ordered an M8 early too, and here I am sitting on my thumb...waiting....waiting....waiting.... :0(

Actually it was more the keys, bass and drums that had to come down, the most. I told them that the volume of the MAZ 8 was going to dictate the volume of the small rooms we tend to play. Keys player has the most to say about it. We sound MUCH better as in a 5 piece sometimes there's too much noise between the the important notes, whether it's vocals or instruments... now the important notes are more prevalent. The music breathes more. It was more of the the Drums and Keys pulling back.... with the drummer still maintaining his good foot and snare backbeat snap.

We try to pull it back a lot too, and (I like your terminology)...let the music "Breathe" a bit...... You never know who/what you're stepping on until you turn down......(did I say that? )......

It's funny you mentioned no monitor for the guitarist....I have a problem with my guitar player playing too loud sometimes. The sound guys quickly fixes this by turning his guitar up so loud in his monitor, he has to turn down. I'm trying to get him to do what I am doing in our small gig applications and put his amp in from of him and use it for a monitor and let the sound guy do his job out front....but he refuses so when he overplays, we blast him to his face via the monitor. Crazy sound guys!

It had some transportation anxiety that could only be sorted out properly by the masters in Maple Heights.
