Hi guys, I just registered to this excellent forum. I got a Monza head coming in a week or so, and was wondering on which speakers/cabs to use. I have got 2 Marshall 1912 (1X12 ) with 150W Celestion speakers that I don't like. I have been shortlisting possible speakers and ended up with these four: Celestion G12H-30 / Celestion Gold 12" / Celestion Vintage 30 and the 12" Eminence Red Fang (they all are 8 Ohm). I think I will go for the first 2 I mentioned and yout take on this would be very valuable to me. Additionally I have a doubt: when I want to use both cabs, shall I need to get a Y cable and plug it in the 4 Ohm output or just plug one speaker to the 8 Ohm output and the other in the 4 Ohm output? I think it should work either way. Thank you for your help.

Hi Welcome to the forum! I have used a 10" red fang with my Monza and really like it. I also have a 1x12 with a V30 in it and that sounds very nice too. The V30 is a little brighter to my ears. I tried a Celestian Blue with it at one point and did not care for it. As for running two cabs together, you are correct, you will want a Y cable. The Dr Z FAQ page has a Y cable recomendation: "How do I run an extension cab with my combo or hook up 2 speaker cabs to my head? This is an easy procedure. First thing to do is get a quality Y Cable like the ones offered by Procables N Sound. These cables are available in series or parallel wiring. Always match the ohm rating of the extension cab to the ohm rating of your combo speaker. The same goes for running 2 cabs. Here's an example for parallel (the most common) connection: 1.) Disconnect your 8 ohm combo speaker form the back of the amp chassis and plug it into the Y cable. 2.) Plug the extension cab into the Y cable. You now have two 8 ohm loads in parallel to make a 4 ohm load. 3.) Plug the Y cable into the 4 ohm speaker out on the rear of your amp. Series connection is the same except that two 8 ohm loads make a 16 ohm load. Not all Z amps have 16 ohm speaker outs so be sure to check your specific amp." Welcome to the forum, its a great place!! God bless, Todd

Hi Todd, thank you very much for your input. I will get a Y cable then and follow those indication. Once everything will be delivered and I assembled the new speakers (a couple of weeks from now) I will let you know how this combination of gear sound. Cheers!

Hi Monza folks, just thought to upload this cover of the hotel california solo that i home recorded with a Monza head and 2 Marshall 1912, one with Celestion gold and the other with G12H30, and connected with a Procables N Sound Y power box. Use Van Zandt pickups on both strats plus Barber Direct Drive and Boss DD:
Let me know what you think.

Hi guys thanks a lot, I am very happy you liked it. It is a great pleasure to play that track. Yeah I like the tone after years of quest. All these components are awesome, starting from the Monza, but also the Barber is a wonderful fat overdrive. Van Zandt pick ups are great and the Celestion G12H30 is fantastic. It seems to me even better than the Gold. The voice of G12H30 is definitely close to Hendrix's tone. In the clip you hear the blend of a G12H30 and a Gold.

Thank you! Oh by the way the video is made with Adobe Premiere, its not hard to use while still being quite a good video editor. Infact, probably the weakest thing in the clip is the sound because it gets recorded directly by the mic of the handycamera, which is definitely not the best mic. But this way I saved some time as it is already sinchronized with the vid.

If you are still looking for a cab, maybe you should try the Line 6 DT25 Extension cab. It's 112 with the G12H90. Rocks. Looks not so bad with the Cream Monza too.
