Hey guys,
I just picked up a 1x10 mini combo in a trade this weekend. It just seems REALLY bright. Nice tone too it but I play strats and teles mostly and it's just way too bright for me right now.
Any easy ways to make the amp less bright? Tubes? Speaker?

Sometimes not lots of activity in mini land, so although I'm no expert I'm gonna give it a try. Others please help if I'm off base cause I'm no tone expert. I think it would help to know what 1x10 speaker you have in it. I have a head with a 1x12 cab. I guess it can be bright but only cause i keep the tone knobs all at trebel 10 with my lp. Anyway I think you could try playing through an open back 1x12 or perhaps one of those ported 1x12 cabs would make a difference. Or try a pedal. I have an exotic ep booster that thickens it up. You could try a pedal with an eq on it that would change the brightness too. Just some ideas.

I have the 1x10 combo with the Eminence Ramrod. I just find it really nasal and bright with my strats and teles. Haven't tried my LP with it yet.
I also haven't tried pedals with it yet but I'll try my ac plus and a few others I have lying around for fun.

It is on the bright side, for sure, but it's very sensitive to input (guitar) and output (speakers). Is the tone knob and or volume on your guitar all the way up? How many hours does the speaker have on it at decent volume? Tubes might not be the answer, could be, but a nice broken in speaker/s, and a larger cab would probably do the trick. Remember speakers and the cab are half the equation.

Thanks dude, I just posted that on day one, might record a longer clip showing off that volume knob. I think it sounds fantastic!

One thing I thought of playing my old amp, is sometimes the mini may sound bright but it's cause you are not used to it. I mean if you are used to a strong attack with the pick it may sound "bright" on the mini. If you play softer or even with your fingers the notes may sound rounder and softer too on the mini.
