I'm thinking of switching out one of the Celestion Blue speakers with a Celestion Gold in my Stangray combo. Does anyone know what ohm of speaker I would need? Thanks.

I think you're going to need to determine the ohm rating on the Blue you're removing and get a Gold that is the same ohms. Then connect the Gold exactly as the 2 speakers are wired now. If the Blue doesn't indicate its ohm rating, look at how the speakers are wired now and note which tap on the output transformer is used.
Good luck.

The Gold is a wonderful speaker, especially with the Ray. I would think that a Blue\Gold cab would be great with the Gold filling in what I believe are the shortcomings of the Blue on its own. I paired my Blue with a 50 watt ceramic Blue Dog for this reason. My Gold is in a 1x12 cab and gets almost all the playing time with the Ray head. The Blue\Blue Dog 2x12 cab is mostly used with the Ghia. Both cabs sound great with either amp though.

If you are buying one new, make sure you don't judge it until it is fully broken in. Makes a huge difference with that speaker.

Very true on the breaking it in. One of.my golds have been doped by Weber . Its huge with my SRZ! THE GOLD is worth every penny it costs. Keep us informed on the purchase.

I got a Gold a few months ago ... I use a 1x12 cabinet. Using the gold with my 'Ray, Rt66 and Ghia, it sounds great with all of them. And yes, I have had Blues, but decided a 1x12 is all I need for the bands and venues I'm playing in ... so the higher wattage of the Gold made all the sense in the world. I've been happy and have no reason to look back. YMMV.
