IMO.........
If a "sound guy" is NOT a musician(preferably, a guitar player)....
They got NO biz....being a "sound guy".

^^^ You know Tony, 99% of the time I totally agree! Trouble we have is our bass player owns the PA and is a highly technical computer whizz. He undertands all there is to know about sound theory and so for a few years he was our sound guy as well (go figure how THAT works!). Anyways, the one thing he couldn't was actually HEAR! Big frequency losses in various parts of the range, and NO CLUE how to balance music - he just boosted the bits he liked!! Fast forward to today. Good friend of mine is an ex DJ (of the old school when DJs actually spun vinyl and played music!). He can't play anything, but boy does he have GREAT ears!! We've never sounded better! This may be the exception which proves your rule as he's the next best thing to a musician I guess, but IMHO, KEEP GEEKS AWAY FROM THE SOUND DESK!! ;D

Great time w the MAZ 8 last night at the Lakeside with Los Dudes. Balanced perfectly with the other guitar player. Nice to hear the 12" in there. I used the EQ bypass a bunch, boy that thing is a great boost. Did the gig in Pentode with the master nailed and the input at about 1 o'clock. Left my whole rig in the closet to play there again tonight with Spanking Charlene.
Really exciting.

Okay, I really didn't think I wanted one of these because I already have the Maz 18, but the more I read and hear your stories, the more I'm reconsidering. Then I listen the the new videos and I can't stand it. I was really thinking my next Z would be a Z28 but this thing is starting to make me wonder. Thanks for the great reports guys!

I used it at a bar gig last night. We only mic the vocals and the whole room works off of the stage volume for the instruments. In the first set the bass and drums were a bit too loud for it to keep up. I had the master dimed and volume at 3:30 or so. Between the sets, I had a talk with the guys and the got them to turn down, and the rest of the night went great. Plus as we all know, in situations like this the vocals and everything else sounds better when the volumes are more controlled. I had the Z28 in the car just in case, but it stayed there. Impressive amp for sure. Great job Z-Amps!

Excuse my ignorance but what position is the volume 'dimed' at?

Excuse my ignorance but what position is the volume 'dimed' at? Dimed = $.10= 10= all the way up=full volume=maxxed out=WFO

A dime is a 10 cent coin, so "dimed" is set at max setting 10. (I had to ask that too when I first joined the forum - we don't use dimes over here ;D )

I've been playing guitar and/or running sound for 40+ years and most of the times our band used a sound man we would have been better off mixing ourselves from the stage. A bad sound guy is worse than no sound guy at all. On the other hand when you have a good one he is worth whatever you have to pay him. The last few years it seems like I have been running sound more and playing less because guitar players are plentiful around here but sound engineers are rare. I get paid more for most of my sound gigs than I do playing and I usually don't have to haul any equipment. Sad but true.
