Serial number 1 arrived this week, i had a little bit of input at the start of the project, not in terms of the technical side, just things that i would like to see in a lower powered amp and specs that customers had asked for.
All i can say is that 'it's awesome'!!! it really is, in my book, if you can put all the controls at half way and get a great tone then that's the sign of good things to come :-)
I'm very impressed with the Triode side, it's very warm sounding, ideal for taming bright sounding guitars, the pentode is just pure classic MAZ tone in spades.
I'm just waiting for a new interface to arrive and then i'll record a demo of the amp, hopefully the amp will still be here, i'm sure the first customer that tries it will be twisting my arm to sell it to them ;-)

Quick impressions after messing w the amp on breaks during mix sessions........
So many features (Pentode/Triode, Reverb, Master Volume, Cut knob, Tone Bypass, Alnico Blue).
It's crazy that the amp has so many options but it still sounds like you are plugged straight into the speaker. I can tell it's gigable for me in Pentode mode. I'm taking it to the Lakeside after this session this afternoon for the bandstand test. Pentode/Triode sounds just like it has been explained. Pentode: Sparkle, Triode: Warmer (little more compression, little more crunch)
Plus with the Brake-lite the Maz 8 yields what has to be the best bedroom/home recording sounds of the whole Z line.
ps, Tone bypass on this thing is w i l d .
Yeah John, I'd say you are right. The Maz 8 is the next classic Dr Z amp.

What serial number do you have, Eric? You lucky dog!

Eric's nailed it really, very versatile and the EQ bypass is wild.
With the EQ bypass on in pentode mode with the volume cranked and the cut up pretty high, I was getting awesome modified Marshall tones and really cool van halen tones.
With the EQ bypass off and the master up higher than the volume you're instantly in John Mayer oops I mean SRV Lenny tone with a strat.
The guys on TGP who've shelled out the big bucks on a two-rock are gonna be pig sick when they play this!

Some two-rocks are great, I just don't get the snobbery attached to them.
They're a little too safe sounding for me.
Maz 8 boi!

Debating about selling my Rec and Maz 18 and just have the 8. On a rare occasion I may play out.. Usually when I do it's bring the Maz Jr with the Z break. Only thing I wonder about is how much overdrive is this amp going to get. I don't need to sell the Wreck. It's just even with a Aracom Pro I can't really Crank the amp. Then again- The Wreck sounds good at any setting I've tried. Maybe I should be happy with what I have. By an 8 when the initial rush is cooled down a bit.

Back from the gig. Played the MAZ 8 on a smaller un miked gig. Acoustic guy through an amp and echoplex, full drum kit and me on electric. Maz 8/ Les Paul amp volume noon, Master about 4pm, 2 clicks down on the brake lite. had Tremolo on the whole gig and delay on some songs. Amp was plenty loud and very full. This was in Triode mode. It just sounded great and gave great 'feel'. I think I could use this amp on almost any gig. If I needed to I could open up the master and brake lite and switch to Pentode for the max.
The tilt on the front panel was nice too. Had the amp on the floor (where all amps belong IMHO) just a great sound.
Earlier at the studio when we kicked in the tone bypass the overdrive w P90's was really full on nuts-0 exciting grind.
Hats off to the Doc and his super staff.

I was wondering about that. Great news. "Put it on the floor....and let it roar!!".....That's what you say, right!? ;D

Wow! You still had to use 2 clicks on the BL? The Doc knows he can make a "low wattage" amp loud. How much does the speaker tilt up Eric? It's hard to tell from the pictures.

The tilt is relatively minor, probably about 5% but if you can see it you can hear it. Taking it back to the studio today. Hope to utilize it for an OD today while mixing. Have a gig with a loud band on Sunday where I set up on the side w the bass player. I really think it'll work.

...the first customer that tries it will be twisting my arm to sell it to them ;-) That might have been me but I was impervious as I was collecting my new Jr NR at the time ;D The 8 was a lot more 'serious' than I was expecting...sounded awesome. Great all-round package...the reverb seemed to be improved too!

Did the gig with the loud band today where I set up on the bass amp side (usually requires a little extra umph) The thing sounded just fantastic.

Wow, this looks very cool. First time I've thought about trading the Maz 18 in for anything since I got it. Truth is, I quite like the volume I get with the 18, but a slightly more compact package with earlier breakup would be awfully tempting.
