I have demoed a GT 3 times now and I love the tone. But I'm really hesitant because it is so loud. I hooked up my THD Hotplate, and the tone was ok, but still very loud at -8db. -16db didn't sound good. So what's the consensus from you guys? Loved it but couldn't handle the volume? Learned to live w/ the volume? Couldn't play small to medium clubs with it? Found a great attenuator solution? Do any of you classic rockers gig with this as your primary amp? Thanks, Mike S

I love it and have learned to manage the volume using the guitar's volume. No plan to get rid of it - that's for sure!

It's friggen loud, wish I was back in the '90's and I could have swapped it for my Soldano Hot Rod 50 I was using through 2 Marshall silver ann 4x12 cabs. Too loud to use these days but sounds amazing. I wonder if you could do the old Twin Reverb trick and pull 2 output tubes? ? That might chill it out a little. don't try it before consulting the experts, just a thought. Or take a Ghia, pull out the tone control and put in a presence control. Kinda like a 18 watt GT.

This is what concerns me. I have a feeling that a lot of owners loved the tone but got rid of it because of the volume, and most who do still have one, use it only in their music room at the house and "love it." That's fine, but I would like to hear from any rockers who are actually gigging with it in small to medium clubs, if that is even possible. I have ordered an attenuator from Mr. Ho (not an ultimate) with continuous attenuation (instead of the stepped of the Hot Plate) and will demo it one last time w/ that.

I'm not currently gigging (quit my band about ten months ago), but I used the GT as my main amp for small clubs for a little better than a year. I kept the amp volume between noon and 2:00. I did use an Air Brake (usually on 2) and a plexiglass baffle in front of the speaker cab. I wasn't ever told to turn down. In fact, I was usually able to reach back and reduce the attenuation as the night wore on. In comparison, prior to getting my GT, I ran a MAZ Jr NR and/or RXJr without an attenuator or plexi baffle, and I was told to turn down often. I swear by the Air Brake and plexi speaker baffles. They really allow me to get the amp in it's sweet spot without killing people up close to the stage or effecting the PA mix. My drummer complained about my stage volume, but I never had to tell the sound guy to bring my volume up in the monitor...

I appreciate your input. This is what I'm looking for. The plexiglass baffles are intriguing. I have some spare plexiglass available, so I will try that. Would love to hear from anyone else who gigs, or has gigged, w/ the GT . . . positive or negative.

I got the idea from Joe's rig run-down on Youtube. Supposedly, he uses the same cranked high powered amps from small clubs to gigantic halls. I build my own with some plexi and heavy-duty clear Gorilla tape.
Here's a vid of Joe talkin' about 'em...

When I owned a GT, I could barely crack that volume in most places we played, but in the places where it could breathe a little, people told me that I'd never sounded better.

Not worried about the Volume as I’m lucky enough to have a separate studio across from the House. Just got a Great deal on a Red Head. Cannot Wait.

If I recall, Doc previously alluded to the notion that Walter would roll the amp volume way up and roll down the guitar volume....rolling up for OD. I think Walter was a big fan of the GT
