Well, I finally finished my valence in the 'ole woodshop. For this valence, I decided to treat myself and I went out and bought some curly maple. ;D I bought a beautiful Maple Burl Z from Harvey (Thanks Harv!) and it goes well with the curly maple. I'm just so proud of my new girl! I had my first gig with the Route last Sunday, and another one coming up tomorrow. I think I've got it tuned in for the room. Really enjoying this amp. Perfect for me.

And it's even bookmatched, too, eh? Very nice, indeed! All the colors/tones work perfectly with the tolex and grillcloth, too.

Howdy,
That's a real beaut, PRSPastor. May I ask what speaker(s) you've got in your Z cab?

Beautiful! I tried to talk my dad into curly or flamed maple for the bed on the 27 Model T pickup he's building... But I think he's going with red oak. I should show him this pic.

Hey eggman, I have a G12H30 in the cab. Nice match sonically... I just don't crank the amp.
Fun project! I originally dyed it more of an amber color, but it just didn't fit the tolex color wise. I sanded away the dye layer and found that the dye left nice contrast in parts of the curly maple's grain. I finished it with Waterlox, a tung oil based finish, to really bring out the grain chatoyance. When you walk by the amp, the grain dances in a 3D kind of way. Should hold up well, it has two biscuit joints in the bookmatch.

Now THAT is a worthy replacement for the Z28! ;D How does the volume compare? Do you need an AirBrake?

Hey Pete, Thanks buddy. You know, I think that the Z28 and Route 66 are pretty equivalent volume wise. Those ten extra watts don't make much of a difference volume wise. They both are still loud amps to me. Air brake is a necessity, I think, if you want to have the amp give up the goods.

^^^ Now that's interesting! Bigger but not much louder! Sounds cool! So 2 out of 3 ain't bad so far (Ghia and Z28 in the house - just need Route 66 now! Greg, how close is the tone to the Z28, or is it sufficiently different to compliment the Z28? Pete

^^^ ;D
It's hard for me to compare loudness as I'm going from memory. Greg is your hookup for volume differences. Greg is right about the tone differences and I could tell them apart blindfolded. Getcha' one Pete!

I would have to say that John's memory is quite good. His description of his new Route compared to his departed Z28 was 'right-on'. And his one-word description of the Route as 'smoooth' is perfect! That is in fact a classic description of an Ultra-Linear amp design - 'smoooth' sounding. So, yah Pete, your Ghia, and your Z28, and your future Route 66 will all get along together splendidly, with exquisitely complimentary tones all around. You have good taste in tone Brudda - go with it! Oh I do believe my next Z will be a Route 66 (I would also love a KT45, but that is just SO much more amp than I could ever use) - all I need now is lots of CASH!! ;D I think I'm pretty addicted to the EF86, so a Remedy and a StangRay also appeal hugely, but that Route 66 sounds immense!

THAT is a Cool Rig!! I love the Size of Z's newer 1x12 Cabinet also....Fits so Well together and I'll bet sounds as good as ANY 1x12 Available.
However, have you considered a Celestion Gold ? I think it would SOUND WONDERFUL....and LOOK even Better!
Nice Job! Mark
