Just got a Brake Lite this afternoon (The Bay used) and it has the chicken head knob. I can't stabilize (tighten) the knob for use. Because of that, I can't tell what position the switch is in (the knob spins). There was one position where the sound went off completely - scared the heck out of me! What can I do? That knob as is will not function properly and I sense that the switch will get stripped if I use pliers. Very disappointing as opposed to my Z RX ES, which I love. Rick

Well a used device may have had anything done to it before it arrived in your hands.
Those knobs have a set screw that is recessed into the handle - have you attempted to adjust the set screw?
I'm assuming you didn't see that and hadn't tried it, but if you did, what happened? I haven't had mine off, but I think typically that set screw would come to bear on the shaft and perhaps even on the flat side of the shaft. If your set screw is missing or loose, you're not going to have a good experience. Check it!

Thanks for the reply, Steve.
There's no real "flat side" on the pot post. The switch post just seems rounded and there's no real way for the set screw/knob to grip a round post even after the set screw is tightened. I really wanted this to work as the RX ES is too loud without a bit of attenuation. I have a Mass Lite (100 watt) that works great but is not really mountable.
Any other solution before I send it back?
Rick

Sounds like maybe the switch has gotten hard to turn then. Mine is very easy to switch, so the knob setscrew is adequate. You might need a new switch, or maybe a dash of lubricant to free it up. Without a physical inspection it would be hard to guess.

How do you lubricate it? I have some Nu-Trol Contact Cleaner if that would work.

Sent it back. Very disappointing. The concept is great.

You should get one that hasn't been mangled by a former owner. I'm here to tell you I could not live without my Brake Lite.

Now I know that the chicken head version may have issues. I'm back in the market for the newer version. Thanks, Rick

Hope you score one soon, Rick. Got three of them here. One's mounted; the other two float where they're needed.

Talked with the original seller and was refunded 100%. He saw that it was damaged (in transit?). Anyway, he said it was repaired at Z-central and I bought it (or a replacement) again last night. Hope to have it this weekend and install in RX ES (45 watts). New pictures show that the chicken knob is gone and was replaced with a round knob.
I'm not looking for bedroom volume - but, I do want volume reduction on stage for gigs so I can run the amp at about 5 --> 6 and get tube OD at non-ear-bleed levels.

Got a 2nd BL, installed in in my RX ES and used it over the weekend. I must say it works as I had hoped and love the new flexibility. Set it on "3" at rehearsal yesterday and it was absolutely perfect. Rick
