Feel the need to chat up the 66... So I bought a Z 1x12 convertable cab with a G12H30 in it for my new setup with a Route 66, and I'm wondering if anyone has ever had any trouble with this combination? Any blown speakers, anyone?
I've heard they are a great compliment to each other, just wondering about the power handling.

I used the stock G12H30 for my Maz 38 head and had no problems. Had swapped the speaker out for several different offerings by time I got my Route 66. I did end up kinda going full circle though. The last and favorite speaker I used w/ my Route 66 was the Celestion Heritage G12(55Hz) 30 watt. Your G12H30 should sound wonderful and I'm sure the speaker will hold up nicely.

Yep, yah did Albert! ;D
Thanks for chiming in Doug. I'm pretty thrilled with the cab already, really a top notch cab. Glad the speaker will probably hold up. I'm not one of those that will dime an amp, so I doubt I'll ever be pushing the speaker too hard.

No problem. Don't be afraid to dime that amp once that speaker breaks in. Even if it's not where you normally run an amp, ya gotta taste that Route 66 goodness at all levels

Say is that speaker bright or does it have a good overall response with the amp ...with my golds (12 & 10's) the amp has a nice high end shimmer but it really shines with my 4x10 (2 Z's a Weber Blue ceramic /Silver Alnico ... ;D

Hey Albert, Well, I can't speek to it pairing with the Route 66 yet, but that speaker with my Two Rock Jet Signature sounds really good - a good pairing. The Jet is a "thick" amp and it is pretty sensitive to what speaker it is paired to. The G12H30 is supposed to be scooped and so it blends well with the mid heaviness of the Jet. I've tried some other pairings with the Jet and it gets a little muddy with mid-heavy speakers.
Taking all of that into consideration, I'm thinking that it'll pair nicely with the 66.

Hey Albert, Just a follow up to this conversation... I really like the G12H30 with my Route. It is a great pairing... very nice and balanced throughout.

I blew one of the chinese G12H30's with a rt 66. Of course it was pretty loud and I usually play strats but had something with a humbucker going through it so it had more bottom.

Sorry to hear abot that tweedpro... That was a pain I'm sure. I'm pretty careful and I just don't crank the thing anyway, this is my clean blues tone amp, wit a bit o dirt. ;D

Oh I tell yah, I succumbed Sunday and opened it up. Treble at three, bass at noon, volume at three. (was being careful with the speaker and too much bass) HOLY COW! Glorious, rich tone. The sag was fantastic at this volume. This was before practice, and I got a few looks. Here goes Reverend Rock again... Turn it down bro...
Had to play at 8:00 on the volume for the service.

Yessir, that sag was from the tube I got from KCA. NOS glory. Thanks for that great advice.
Good to know about the mechanics of a speaker failure. Really enjoying this amp.

I just put in my order today for a z convertible 112 with a G12H30 to go with my Route 66.. I was torn over this speaker or a greenback but after exhaustive reading, decided to go with the slightly more powerful driver. I hope I made the right choice. I already have a Z 210 cab but am finding it too loud to use at bedroom levels when at home. I am hoping the 112 cab is a little less efficient and allows the amp to be pushed a tad more. I love the 210 cab for its tone but have been really wanting a 112 to go with it. I hope the wait time is not too long!

Crabby, you might want to invest in an attenuator of some kind. The single G12H will probably be as loud as 2 G12m greenbacks. A 5U4 rectifier will also help lower the volume. It won't be necessary to rebias, but I would. A little on the hot side will allow you to turn the amp down and still get the goods at a lower amp volume.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes. This is a common discussion here, and it's cool to know how each individual handles their situation.

Thanks Doc. My goal was to buy a cab that had less volume then my 210 so I am still second guessing myself on not getting the Greenback instead but the general consensus seems to be leaning towards the G12H30 for a single 112 for this amp. With the Greenback, I would really have to be careful but I was really interested in a driver with a lower sensitivity.
I actually do have a Brake lite SA and use it constantly to tame the volume as I often only get to play once the kids are in bed. I am just crazy about my Route 66 which I traded my Ghia for. I really did like the Ghia but the Route has so much more thump and power to it, I could not resist!

My cab arrived today after a painfully long three month wait! I posted a full review in the cab section and made a side by side comparison to my Z 210. I can say with absolute certainty that i made the right choice as the new 112 cab is exactly what I hoped it would be tone wise. Check out my review in the cabinet section. Here's a photo of my rig:
