Hey all, I currently own a Maz JR NR and am inquiring about the RXJR. I see that it just has a Master Volume knob...how do you adjust gain? Any other neat little tid-bits that the website doesnt really cover? Does it have a pretty smooth distortion when breaking up?
Thanks

Not that I have one but .... it has footswitch for OD. Tracii Guns used it in his rig originally so I'm guessing it has more than passable OD qualities ;D

The Rx jr has a volume knob in the front to adjust gain and a master in the back to adjust volume. it's a great master as it is a phase inverter master. The distortion is smooth and the overdose gives it more. I think there is a clip comparing it to the Maz done by Benttop (Steve) in the audio section.

I listened to those clips and it turns out, the tone of the amp sounds flat and distant. I thank Steve for putting them up, the the RXJR sounds pretty thin.

In my experience it has a monstrous bottom end with some wonderfully chimey highs that are bright but not tooth picky. I think the speaker combination you use with this amp would be the key. I've got mine running through an open back 2x12 with a celestian blue and a g-12h 30 and it's a match made in heaven. very round sweet cleans and creamy smooth dirty tones.

I run the same 2x12 set-up (G12H / Blue) and the sound is anything but thin. The EQ is much wider than the MAZ if that makes sense. It can get lower lows and higher highs.....and more mids with the overdose engaged. Having said that....my Rx Jr is for sale now. I have another new amp on the way, so I can't keep everything I have. The Rx Jr was intended to be my Les Paul rig, but my new amp is covering that ground for me. The MAZ is just a classic amp. I had thoughts of selling it recently, but it just fits my ear....I guess I'm used to it. I've had it the longest of any of my amps (I've seen many come and go). The highs you perceived could also be related to the EF86 (or other tubes). Darker EF86's seem to be preferred with the Rx Jr....not sure which one Steve was running.

Also, I believe the distortion is anything but smooth on the RX Jr. It sounds much nastier than the MAZ (in a good way!). Just more aggressive sounding due in part from it's percussiveness. The distortion on the MAZ has those full lows and mids, while the RX has a greater range of distortion (or so it seems to my ears).

Jordan and mcook217, I'm thinking about a openback 212 with the heritage g12h30 and a celestion blue. Is that a pretty good mix?
