Hello everyone!
I am new to this board, so here's my story:
I live in Aachen, Germany. My style is mostly Blues to ACDCish Rock - no high-gain-stuff.
The first tubeamp I had was a Peavey-Valveking with a Behringer 4x12. After 4 months I sold it, because I thought that I was better off with my modeling-amp and my solid-state power amplifier.
Next thing was a Marshall TSL-100 with a tall version of a Marshall 4x12 (Greenbacks). It made its job very good, because my band and I were heavily gigging at this time. But even for small clubs it was overpowered. I sometimes used a Powerbrake to get a little chime out of the output-Tubes. In the end I sold it, because it was too damn heavy to carry around from gig to gig.
Next one: a VOX AC30 Handwired no MV (the anniversary-edition from 2007), used it with the Marshall-4x12 - Found out that I'm definitely not a VOX-guy.
Sold the Marshall 4x12 and got me a noname-open-back-cab with a EVM 12L Classic 16 Ohm. Never used another cab since that time, because it's a damn good combination - and not too heavy.
Now: Bogner Alchemist - I heard the Prototype on Youtube (NAMM and R. Bogners presentation in a Guitar-Center) and it sounded really good. But the asian product that I received had a really compressed sound, as if they wanted to make the cheaper product look inferior to the regular USA-models. - Sold
Next: Marshall Class 5 - had to retube it, because the first tube-stage was too noisy. It also wasn't a Plexi-Sound at all - to my ears. - Sold after 2 months.
Ok. Enough PR for the other brands. For months I searched the internet for a good Marshall-Like tube amp, that is not too heavy, durable, trusty and well handcrafted. As I was always a fan of Buddy Whittington and his TONE I went to the Dr. Z-site and searched - found the SRZ, as it had to be a EL34-AMP with MV. The youtube-demos blew me away. This was what I searched for.
A few weeks later I contacted my Dr. Z-Dealer here in Germany. And look what arrived today:
I have never seen an amp that is so well manufactured. Best Quality I have ever seen!!!
I placed it on the 1x12 cab and plugged my Tele in (Walnut Body, Maple neck 1" thick, SD Vintage Stack in the bridge, SD '59 in the neck).
The next hour was the best hour with an amp in my whole life. I can't believe how versatile the EQ is and that you get good tones at EVERY Volumelevel, even in very low positions.
Enough said. I think I have found MY amp!!!
