Hey I'm looking to buy a Mini Z. I can pick up the old style combo with the 8 in. speaker. Guy is asking $450.00. I need the air break so I'll cost me another almost $200.00. Thing is I have cabs and the price of a new Mini Z head is only $799.00. Does the price seem fair? Any reason the new one is better?

Seems fair to me but if your wanting something other than the 1x8 you might be just as well to wait on a used head to come available.

Some folks are saying even the mini with an AB or BL is not bedroom level. Will the 8 in speaker make is less loud? Will the 8 in. speaker not sound as good as me running into a 12 in. cab?

It's all in what you want. That is a fair price if not better, but that 8 has nowhere near the bottom end or depth a 12 will have.

$450 is a real good price IMO... I sold mine for $600 a few months back which seemed to be the going rate at the time. Not sure what you're looking to do with the Mini but I wasn't a big fan of the 8" speaker... I would hold out for the head if it were me...

I really want the head but I think I may get the 8 in combo. I'd like to play it at home so I will need an attenuator. But a break lite SA seems like it would be ok because it could be used with other amps. If I get the head not so much. Also I mostly play with friends in a garage so i only have to be louder than the drums. Now I'm playing an LP Classic through a Peavey Prowler 112. Its actually a great tube amp for the price. Clean channel is good, good overdrive channel with a bost for solos. My only fear is that the other guitar player plays a gretsch and it is up to me to provide low end. But i do have an old SS Peavey Pacer 112 that I only use as an extension cab, that could be used with the Mini Z instead of the 8 in speaker. Guess I'm talking myself into it.

i have an original bad cat mini cat with the 10 inch speaker, eminience spkr upgrade also, rathe rthan the jensen it came with, has top build quality, line out, speaker out, big heavy leather handle, master volume, bass treb and volume, actually more versatile than a mini z, tried to sell it for 500 shipped never got a nibble.

Ok got my Mini. Red 20th Ann. head. Paid $525 a little high but seems very in good shape. Thanks headshrinker. Thanks everyone who was helpful. So far I like it ok. I'm gonna get a new Celestion 30 speaker soon and plop it in one of my old SS amps. Then eventually a 210, 212 or 112 cab. I was thinking a used mesa 112 or avatar 212. UPDATE if anyone cares. I put a celestion 70th ann. in the SS peavey (thanks helmi) and it sounds much better!!! Now I am starting to see what everyone is talking about. A good speaker is a must for this amp. Still just a bit of buzz or something at high volume without Atten. Even the Buzz is not totally unpleaseant, but not correct I think. But this could be anything as the SS amp including spring reverb is still in the cab. lol.
