It it overkill to get a Z Verb for a Max 18 NR Combo (12" Blue)? I am looking for a little country verb and sometimes a moody spacial vibe and sometimes some surf! Thanks for comments!

If all you are looking for is a little depth or if you are gigging, the Z-verb is probably overkill. Just get a decent pedal, no one will ever notice the difference in a band setting. For surf and "moody spacial vibe", or if you are recording, it's hard to beat a good tube reverb unit.

Thanks for your reply. I am more of a bedroom / living room / garage player. -- Any suggestions for reverb pedals--both the analog / digital types that are good for the Maz?

I've been quite happy with the Boss RV-5 but there are so many out there. Just go listen to several. By the way, I no longer play out and I have a Z-verb and I prefer it to the pedal for home use. The difference is quite noticable outside of a band\live setting.

ive got a zverb, a holy grail and a EHX cathedral. all have there ups and downs. If i had to pick them for surf, space and country (all of which i play) id do it like this. Space ambiance = Cathedral Surf rock = Zverb lil' toter for everything = The Grail
I pick the verb around the size gig and the rig i using.

The Wampler Faux Spring Reverb is pretty great as well.

I have a Holy Grail and a Boss FRV-1 that do a pretty good job but they are both digital so I am getting a Wampler Faux Spring Reverb. I've played through one in the store and it not only sounds great but it "feels" good. Pretty much like a stand-alone Fender reverb.

I've got a Wet pedal and find it a good compromise between versatility and simplicity - kind of like Z amps . That said, I'd much rather have a Z Verb ;D.

The TC Hall of Fame is a good, low cost, very flexible reverb. If you want one that'll do an amazing emulation of a Z-Verb, plus a lot of other cool stuff, try a Strymon Blue Sky run through your NR's effects loop. Less than half the cost of the Z-Verb, and a lot easier to take to a gig. Also, the Kilpatrick Lush Puppy's a bit off the beaten track but has a great, natural sounding reverb plus slap-back delay in one pedal. That said, I own all three, but I still want a Z-Verb.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts--I am a "save-up" and go for it type of gear buyer. I love the NR combo with blue--and go back and forth on "R" vs. "NR". Then, of course, now there is the Maz 8 with Reverb. I think I will save up for the Z-verb--but think i have overkill for home--a combo and a separate reverb tank. But a year after having it I see every time I play the delight Z owners have with the equipment.

I have wondered the same thing. I traded my Maz 18 with reverb for a NR because of a hum that annoyed me. I've been using a Stymon Flint with it and my Mini Z. I am very satisfied with that.
