lol..yeah i liked this one better than the 52 reissue....It had a little more mojo IMO...I traded my fender custom shop custom classic tele for it...It blows it away, I'n not too convinced these days that custom shops are worth all that extra coin....in the z wreck this guitar kills my custom shop...must be the pickups... Sorry for your loss..

You sure are buying the sweet guitars of late. The Fender Custom Classic is Fender's entry into the Custom shop. There is no real difference in it's quality over what you have in the 52 hot rod . Just one's production and the other is CS. The hot rod collection is Top of the line in the assembly line guitar. Nitro finished Body -with satin neck.
The only reason you pay more for a classic over that Hot rod is Fender MSRP marketing. It's more complicated than that, But it's the only reason that Classic could cost you more. You might get a fancy Birdseye maple neck in the classic . I purchased a brand new classic in 2004 for 1600.00. That was before Fender changed the pricing of the Custom shop guitars. An American deluxe was about 1100.00 at the time.
All Fender has done is put a Relic finish on a Classic and jacked the price up double.
It's really hard for me to buy much CS Fender. Just due to the fact they have raised the price of things so high in the last 5-7 years. Without raising the quality.
It just amazes me how a deluxe has went up maybe 500-700 in that 6 years -But the CS has went up like 1800.00. For nothing.

That is a seriously nice guitar, Jason. Have to seek one out and give it a try. Have another Tele that could become expendable.

I played one through a Z-Wreck at Make n Music here in the city. It was ultra bad arse to say the least. I own an 8502 Telecaster it has a similar feel only different pickups. Congrats on the new axe...

According to Fender's site, the 3-way switch is wired with two positions for the neck pickup: one with tone control, one without. Do you like this configuration, Jason? Or do you miss the combined neck-bridge sound? (I imagine it's easy to rewire or consider putting in a switch with more selection positions..)

Very nice. It was between one of those and the King Bee I have when I was shopping last. I still may end up with a hot rod 52 as well.

Oh man.. I picked up one of those at GC one day and it was so light, and I wanted it so bad. But the strings were just all cruddy and the guitar wasn't set up right at all, and I passed. ( Same experience at my local GC. I liked the guitar a lot too.

I just ordered the 52 American Vintage Reissue Tele, it's the one I was gassing for a while back. For some reason I was under the impression it was discontinued. When I came across it last night, I was stoked! I hope it pairs well with the Z Wreck - now i have two things I am waiting for!

I played a 52 Hot Rod the other day. Great sounding Tele and the mini HB sounded awesome.

J5 I played the '52 reissure and the hot rod 52 both in the z wreck...the hot rod killed the 52 for tone....hands down...IMO in the wreck anyway. stock pups in the 52 reissue sounded like crap to me...trebly and sharp...would be a nice guitar i bet if the pickups were swapped out with something better.

Oh no don't tell me that!!! I respect your opinion Jason - your tones are phenomenal - and if you say the Z Wreck doesn't pair well with the 52RI then I'll keep shopping..... I am wondering how the Z Wreck will pair with what I have now - a RW 50's Tele MIM?? Anyone try this pairing? J5

52 Tele Hot Rod - I WANT ONE! Simple as. Unfortunately I am off-loading a ton of gear for financial reasons so any new gear will have to wait a while

what you should do J5 is try one....your MIM 50's Roadworn should sound pretty good. I am sure Jason was comparing just the two, they are slightly different, the HR is a lot beefier sounding...I know I have a Maz Jr and three different teles....all sound fantastic through the amp. One of my teles is a 52ri...it's one of the first from 82 and that sucker sounds huge! Try a few different 52's if you are in the market for one....I would love to have a RW 50's as well!

Anyone try this pairing? the road worn was a great guitar, I owned a blonde one at one time...I loved that guitar...its had awesome twang...I bet it'll sound great in the wreck...my buddy also had a 52 reissue japanese made and he too swapped out the pickups and put noiseless pickups...yes noiseless...lol and it turned that guitar from sounding aweful to a tone machine instantly...noiseless ...go figure...lol Maybe you'll get lucky and get a good one...you may like it...judge for yourself....this is just my opinion...i liked the hot rod tele better. cheers! Yeah I was going to sell the RW to put the $$$ towards the 52AVRI, however I can't bring myself to sell it.....I tell ya for a MIM it sure is a nice guitar! I'm hoping it sounds good thu the Wreck! I think I'm gonna stick with the AVRI, the store has a 30 day return policy any how so if I don't like it I can always return it! the store has the Hot Rod Tele but it's been banged around on display and it has a weird grain pattern in it, and for this they are discounting it $100! thanks for the advice! I'm not a Z-Wreck owner, but I do have a '52 Hotrod Tele--got lucky and picked up a great used one here locally pretty cheap. Great guitar with all my Zs; especially like it with a Zen Drive or other low-gainer. Haven't entirely bonded with the pickups, and may replace them woth Lollars at some point. Didn't know that about the selector switch--cool beans. Thanks, doctorice!

Didn't know that about the selector switch--cool beans. Thanks, doctorice! You're welcome, of course. My question: is the Fender description of how the switch operates correct? Seemed to me when I played it at GC that it was standard Bridge-Both-Neck 3-way.

I have my own '52 Hot Rodded Tele .....a 2004 52 RI w/ Glendale bridge, Lollar '52T at the Bridge, and a aNaLoG.MaN/Fralin Jim Weider Big T at the neck. This guitar is quickly becoming my favorite through my Z Wreck! Awesome twang, spank, warm, thick, deep, growl....you name it. It can do it! I bought this stock guitar here in the BST section. (After much urging from Z Brothers: Mark N & Corey) ..Then made a few "improvements". All my guitars sound great through the Z Wreck, but there is something special about this one~ I'm glad I decided to keep it.

Seemed to me when I played it at GC that it was standard Bridge-Both-Neck 3-way. I'm not sure I can answer that, except that there seems to be a tonal difference between the 2 and 3 positions even with the tone control rolled all the way up, which (I think) means that it's basically inactive. Maybe I'm wrong, though, and there's actually some neutral midpoint that's pretty much what you'd hear if the tone circuit were bypassed. You'd think I'd know that after all these years. Weird.

I've got the 52 Hot Rod Tele into my Z Wreck daily. Just amazing tone. I describe it like biting into the tastiest, juiciest, most wonderful buffalo wings you'd ever have! lol.
I'll be posting another one of my "Jam With Me" vids later tonight. Tele into a Wampler Paisley Drive into an Electro-Harmonix Cathedral into the Z Wreck (with an Air Brake). I'll post a link when it's live.
