I just got a used Mini Z and noticed that even when the volume all the way down it is still way louder than I would expect. When I crank the volume I get more gain but it dosen't get much louder, it's like the volume is cranked from the begining. Is this how anyone elses works or is there a chance there might be wrong with mine?

Doesn't sound right to me. My Mini Z is pretty responsive to the volume knob. Not that it should matter but what is the attenuater on?

Try a new/different preamp tube. You may just have a "gainy" one in there. A 5751 works great!

Good suggestion Tom.. In my Ghia, the V1 tube makes a big difference in volume. A 12AU7 has dramatically less volume than a 12AX7.
..hope your Mini doesn't have any issues. Good luck.

I would try a new el84 also. Since its used (the mini) installing a full new set of tubes would not be a bad idea. Unless you already know they are new for sure that is.
