There are really some killer tone hiding in this amp with lower tone control settings.
As an experiment, I un-dimed it (full CCW) and started working up to where it felt the like the bottom was balanced. Surprise, it was just past 9:00!
With the tone set at lower levels, the amp get a really throaty tone, because that mid scoop is moved down to a slightly lower range.
Pair that with the Cut dialed back to about 9:00 also and you can get some very sweet tones.
Now, you can pretty much set the tone at noon and the cut at 10:00 and make any guitar sound famous, but it's really rather stunning just how versatile that one tone knob and one cut know really can be. There's a LOT of tonal range hidden in those two simple controls.

Totally agree with you Hohn... Most of the time, I'm @#4 on both knobs - Volume @#6 "low input" w/1 click on B/L (maybe)... You're right though, the RAY is three knobs of amazement... tom

Good message Hohn. I used to think there was something wrong with my hearing because I was using settings similar to the ones you describe. I finally realized that there were reasons; 1) not using blues and my speakers were darker, 2) used the settings you've outlined, 3) usually lived on the strat middle and neck pickups and 4) plugged into the low input. The ray is very versatile tone machine that can rock with ceramic speakers.

My tone is currently on 7 (2 o'clock). Cut about 4. Sounds good with the prs HB and my Taylor 714CE
