I also put a NOS Telefunken long plate smooth ribbed in V1 and 2 NOS GE's long plate in V2 and PI. I also have the Tung-Sol 6V6's which I like much better than the JJ's. The amp sounds great lots of harmonic character, nice smooth top end. I got the Telefunken from KCA $ 85.00, the GE's $ 40.00 each.

There are so many tubes out there, especially when considering NOS or ANOS tubes. Any tonal qualities that you looked for specifically? I'm realizing that this thread has been hijacked, but I didn't want to start a parallel thread.

Mike at KCA recommended them for their tone and price and the fact they were going in V2 and the PI. V1, being the most tone shaping was getting the Telefunken. I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

I'm very happy with the way it turned out. Thanks for the information and recommendation. I was considering trying a few NOS/ANOS 12AX7s from KCA, but didn't know where to start. What can you tell us about the current production Tung-Sol 6V6GT in the Remedy? Do they still have a big punchy low-end? I like that about the JJ 6V6, but they focus a bit too much on the low-mids like a 6L6. I have little experience with the "classic" 6V6 sound, but I hear that the Tung-Sol is probably the best current production option for that sound.

I was experiencing some high end harshness with the Remedy. Nothing drastic but I found it a little distracting. I'm using a Z Best cab with a G12h and a Weber Alnico Blue Dog. I switch guitars a lot during a night. Les Paul, Strat, Tele and a PRS One set up for slide. I changed to the Tung-Sols first. The bottom end is still strong. It's smoother through the mids and high end. I liked them much better. On a recommendation I then switched to long plate pre-amp tubes. The Telefunken is ANOS the GE's are NOS. I noticed more detail without any spikes in any frequency range. The Strat in particular never sounded better. I run the Remedy on half power. Volumes Bright: 12 o'clock Normal: 11 o'clock Bass: 10 o'clock Mid: 1 o'clock Treble: 2 o'clock.

I will likely try the Tung-Sol 6V6 first and determine if I still need some more preamp tubes to play with. I have enough varieties to keep me busy for awhile. Out of curiosity; what is the wattage on your Weber Blue Dog?

It's a 15 watt. When I told Ted I was going to use it with a G12h he recommended that speaker. He said he was going to do something to match it up to the G12h. I don't know if he meant wattage or efficiency. The cab sounds good one speaker doesn't overpower the other.

I tried a smooth-plate Telefunken in V1 last night.
Configuration: V1= Telefunken V2= JJ ECC803s Gold Pin V3= JAN Phillips 5751 V4-V7= JJ 6V6-S
I must say that I was enjoying this quite a bit. Nice clear classic Marshall tones. Very little compression until about 2:00 PM on the "High" volume. The Telefunken added more clarity and a low-end when compared to the JJ ECC803. I'm pretty sure that a fair amount of low-end is lost with a 5751 in V3. However, my regular guitar is in the shop right now and I have an inaccurate baseline comparison.

Those two speakers combined....even in a Z-best are going to be brittle and harsh with the Remedy. Both are known for a crispy high end.

I tried a used Tungsgram in V1 and it sounded great in the Remedy. This is a very high-gain tube. I'm not sure if this is indicative of all Tungsram tubes, but it sounds great. Great low-end response, bright and sizzly, but not harsh top-end.
I'm still not sure about the 5751 in V3. I like that it increases the clarity and stops the amp from compressing so early, but it cuts alot of low-end. It specifically attenuates the low-mids and I perceive this as a loss of depth. This can be compensated by increasing the bass and normal volume, but it is a delicate operation. It can get mushy real quick.
Perhaps a long-plate 12AX7 in V3 with Tung-Sol 6V6GTs is the way to go. I hear that they don't compress as much and are smoother sounding.
I bet that a 4x12 would compensate for the decreased low-end, but I have not tried it yet. I'm still trying to make my Z-Best and Remedy get along. Ultimately, I prefer 4x12 cabinets. I like the extended low-end and really deep, percussive attack.

So I read bradftw's last post & wondered about the whole low end thing.
Yesterday I spent some time really listening to what was coming out of mine, & for the life of me, it sounded great. Nice & full & thumpy.
So I guess it comes down to the whole formula, as we all probably expected. I'm running mine through an Avatar open back 1X12 with a Scumback H55, & there's as much low mid & bass as Id ever want out of one speaker.
JJECC803 -> Tung Sol 12AX7 -> Ja Phillips 5751 -> JJ 6V6s.
I usually play a Fender Strat strung with 11's, or a G&L ASAT Classic (also 11s).
I'm thinking about getting another 1X12 & loading it with an Alnico of some flavor, just for contrast.

To clarify; I think that it has enough low-end, but it did cut the low-end a bit. I'm running my "bass" and "normal volume" higher than I did before.
Overall, I like what a 5751 in V3 does for the Remedy. Less compression, more use of the gain range (for me) and just clearer tones. Pair it with a high-gain 12AX7 in V1 and this thing really wakes-up.
I'm still going to continue experimenting, but I like where this is going. I think it is great that some people like the Remedy right out of the box with their existing setup, but I needed to do some tweaking to make it work for me.
