Good day! I may be trading my Vox AC30CC2X for a Prescription Jr Combo. I understand the concern about running a ef86 in a combo and wanted to know from the Dr Z owners who feels they have a problem with the ef86 and the combo.
I've read a few posts here in regards to it...but the information is general....as in....I hear you should not run a ef86 in a combo cuz it destroys the tube, makes it rattles ect.....My question is does this seems to be an issue with the Jr.? If the combo rattles like crazy because of the ef86 getting beat to death then I might just hold off for a head....but if the ef86 holds up well in dr z combos then I would much rather prefer a combo....
Thanks you all - jwayne

I was at the amp show a few years back, and they had a "panel of experts" question and answer thing
While most said it's not ideal, all of those manufactures currently make a combo with and ef86
Doc makes, 65 Amps, Vox .....
I have a Stangray Combo, and an Rx Jr head I put a JJ ef86 in the Stangray V1, as soon as it comes off Standby, it turns into a high gain Dog Whistle
I put the same JJ in the Rx Jr, in V3 and it works fine. Don't think the combo has nothing to do with it, it's probably more how it is used in the circuit. Think the Rx Jr is probably more robust with a finnicky Ef86
I would not be concerned about it. Doc wouldn't build it, if he didn't think it would work This forum would be loaded with bad reports ....
Rx Jr is a GREAT amp

Thanks for the info...I'm going to run my Tele through this for a 3 piece country rock cover band. I hope the headroom is enough. Right now I run a 18 watt Marshall with Volume at 75% and I wish it did not distort as much....hopefully this will give me a touch more clean headroom.

Headroom is pretty good With the Overdose off, and Volume and Master dimed, it's still pretty clean, and loud
With the Overdose on, different story. It can do rock without a pedal.
Finding it very versatile, now that I'm learning it

so the dead is done. Last night I traded my VOX AC30CC2X for a RXjr. I also talked him into parting with one of the Celestion Blues in the AC....So now I have RXjr 1x12 combo with a Celestion Blue in it!!!

I never had an issue with my old RxJr, but my Z-28 head had one with a rattle.
I talked to a owner/builder of high end amps and he said he has tested several of current manufactures EF86's and the JJ was the worste.
