My Ray sounds like its dying. Crazy farty static like distortion at all volumes. Put it on standby and it goes away for a few minutes then it eventually comes back.
Most likely tubes...Anyone have this happen before?

IMPOSSIBLE !!!
Blasphemy !!!
Quick and easy check also is to connect to another speaker cab if you have one around
I did have that static at all volumes, but barely any volume. I was the speaker.

Most likely tubes. Mine sounded really farty when the ef86 was going bad. That would be a good palce to start.

"Stangray Sounds Terrible."
Based on the title only, I was going to say
TAKE SOME LESSONS
But sounds like you need some new tubes.

The legendarily acerbic wit of John:)
If it's a brittle sound, I tend to think EF86.
But if it's more of a regular distortion, it could be the recitifier tube (though these rarely fail compared to others).
And of course, these things are tough on power tubes. If you have more that 500 hrs or so on them, they are def due for a swap. Most folks I know try to stay <200 hrs on EL84s in an amp biased so close to class A (nearly full current all the time)

I've have had 2 EF86 tubes fail into over distortion, and it happened quickly. All is good and beautiful one minute, then boom, the demon entered that EF86. One Dario even did this.

Check the EF-86 first.....It's always good to have an extra set of tubes on hand anyway....esp if you're a gigger...
