Can I swap out the tubes in my mini and clean it up a bit? If so, what suggestions would you make? I have the old one-knob mini with the 8 inch speaker.

Try a 12ay7. It will tame it quite a bit. If it's too much try a 5751. Any standard 12 tube will sub in.

5751 helps you dial in clean/slight dirt more easily but does not give you louder clean sound.
Bigger/more efficient speakers are probably the only way to get louder cleans

Oh...It's plenty loud. It just seems to break up too quickly. It doesn't matter if I'm using single coils or double coils.

Give me that ol Mini of yours and buy a Ghia! Seriously try a 12ay7 in the preamp spot. That will help a lot.

In this case the 5751 to mellow it out a bit or 12AY7/12AU7 if you really want only cleans. (Miles recommends avoiding the 12at7 as it is best in reverb and tremolo circuits, not audio circuits) See this link for the gain of similar tubes thetubestore.com/gainfactor.html
