Hey,
I've been looking into getting a reverb pedal and I wanted to see what you guys recommend. I've read many complaints about the holy grail getting a hum and having problems with bypass and I've read that the boss pedal (RV-?) just sounds too 'digital'.
Is there any pedal out there, like a boutique pedal, that gets a good analog reverb tone?
Also, I'll be using it with a Fender Telecaster and a Route 66.
Thanks.

I would check out the VanAmps Sole-Mate. Seems to me the closest thing to tube spring reverb without getting an actual tube reverb tank like Uncle Spot. If/when I do want reverb, I would go for the Sole-Mate or the Uncle Spot (the Uncle's costs over twice as much though).

There's still no way to know how well it gets along with your amp's loop until you actually try one in your amp.

T-Rex has a new one that looks very promising. Besides a mix control it also has a volume control. Might be good for amps where the volume drops when you put a pedal in the loop, like a Stang Ray

Hey, dude! Nice to see you again! Please do tell us about this pedal. All of that company's stuff is quality whether or not I like what it does, I understand it. Too bad about the pricing here. Something about the high cost of living in Finland, or wherever it comes from. So how's tricks in Bad Cat-land?

In the rack arena(or should I say that?)! I like my TC Electronics G-FORCE. But in the pedal thingy I have a T-Rex Replica that if set just right, makes a sweet reverb effect. It definatly adds some depth and dimention to the sound. Hey Bluzsteel....nice to see ya on here again man........ Cheycaster

+1 for Verbzilla... great tones, VERY versatile.
BUT, I also dig the Boss RV-2... harder to find than the RV-3 or 5, but it has a much more natural tone to my ears that rivals the Verbzilla... I don't know if the tone is better, but I do know that the apparent build quality of the RV-2 inspires greater confidence... I've not had any trouble with the Verbzilla, I'm just speculating.

I have that Boss pedal. It's tricky to get an acceptable sound from it.
Do plan on actually turning it off and on? If no, then....
What about something just pedal-sized like a Midiverb or Microverb?
I have a TC Electronic half-deep rack unit in the hidden compartment in my Pedal Pad board. Sounds good, not springy, but pretty good.
Reverb always goes last in the chain, so you could also through a rack unit on top of (or near) the amp. Did that for years....

I had a Verbzilla and used it with my Vox AC30 (my Maz Jr has a reverb) and I didn't like it at all with that amp. What I do is use a Line 6 Echo Park set at a low level for ambiance. For me the echo makes a far better verb than a verb. Now my Maz, that's another subject, it's wonderful.

Verbzilla. Sounds almost as good as my PCM (on Guitar) at 1/1000th the price!

What PCM cost $100,000? did lexicon come out with a diamond studded PCM 9600 that I didn't know about?

Anybody try a marshall Reflector or a T-rex reverb yet? I've had a Marshall Reflector for about 6 months now. I like it fine. The spring's not as good as a Holy Grail but sounds close. On the plus side, the pedal is a lot smaller and has a lot more reverb and tweaking options. It does add some noise though when it's not in the loop. That might be my pedal cables though, I need to add some more high quality ones. I've added more pedals recently and mixed in some cheapy cables that were lying around.

Is the Marshall pedal capable of adding any volume? For some reason the Stang Ray's loop cuts the volume a bit.

I read a lot of negative reviews of the Marshall pedal also.
Has anyone tried the "holier grail" or the "holiest grail"?

I'm anticipating the T-Rex reverb. Analogman says they should be coming soon!

For the price of the T-rex and a little more you can get tube verb. I eventually plan to get a Weber tube verb kit, and warm up the soldering iron.

I went to a local music store on Friday (not Guitar Center, in other words......the only shop in town that carries Z's) and they had a Holy Grail reverb pedal. After reading all the bad reviews about a bad hum, I was somewhat worried, but I played it through a Maz Jr NR and there was no hum, and it sounded good. The Hall setting is very nice.
I bought it and played it through my Route 66 and it sounds pretty good to me. Is Electro-Harmonix selling sub-par versions to the big stores (GC)?

Lefty: You're right about being able to get a tube reverb instead of the T-rex but the T-rex has two possible advantages, the size is good to put in a bag and the volume control may make up what gets lost in Zs loop. I have an old Fender reissue reverb that's blonde and would match my Z amps but I don't want another thing to haul. I'm lazy.

I had the same experience Marsellus, so I bought an HG. Worked fine for about 4 months and then it started getting noisy as described by most players. I think they are hit or miss, but, I'll never buy one again.

That sucks. I hope this one lasts longer than 4 months.
