Seems that when I increase the attenuation level on my Break Lite I lose a bit of clean headroom with the amp settings being all the same.
Am I crazy?

Probably not crazy at all. Of course there is always the chance.. but instead, lets explore something else. Remember that sound pressure level is all about perception. Everyone's perceptions are slightly different, but the main point is that when you lower the volume, your perceptions change. If every frequency is lowered by 3db, your perception may be a LOT of loss at the low frequencies, quite a bit in the highs, and not so much in the mids. How could that not affect your perception of headroom? It has to! Play with your tone controls to see if there is a setting that mitigates the perception of loss of headroom - you might find it, you might not. Almost every person has a different tolerance for what happens when the volume decreases. So I'm rambling now, but the point is that you have to accept you are going to hear it differently when the volume is lower. YMMV

Steve i'm a firm believer in this now after hearing you talk about it on here. It makes perfect sense. Its not that attenuators suck the tone its that you hear thigns differently at lower volumes. On another note i just picked up a Z28 head to use with my 1x12 gold cab with a brakelight and since the Z28 is top loaded it barely reaches the input jack. I have to have the head slightly off center to reach it comfortably.

steve who is this todd you speak of? Also would that degrade my sound at all? Todd is Z-Talk member pcns, who also happens to make some pretty nice cables over at Pro Cables n Sound (click the image to get into the site). Todd has built custom cables for many of us, does extremely good work, and offers a great product.
