Please compair the cranked gain tone, how the amp cleans up, and the the clean tone you get once you roll back the volume nob verse the GT.
I'm pretty sure this will almost be a dead thread as both amps have limeted users but I know some of you must know the answers.

Hey Dave...I have never played a GT, but I will tell you the Z Wreck, with humbuckers, will get very raw...but a refined kind of nasty when cranked. Then will get nice and pretty when you back off the guitar volume. Also, this applies to pick attack as well. All of my Z amps will do this somewhat, but the Wreck does it much better.
I've heard claims different pedals will do this, but none come close to the Wreck in this area.

I had a GT for a while, so when my ZW comes I'll give that question some consideration.

I'm not all that interested in the Z-Wreck, but if it'll hang volume-wise (maintaining volume when you roll the guitar's volume back) w/ the GT, that may spark my interest. I can't find anything that will keep up w/ the GT in maintaining volume when you roll the guitar's volume back. Of the seven different Zs that I've owned/own, multiple Mesas and Marshalls, there's nothing that even comes close to that GT.

And that is why I'm gonna one day give the GT a shoot, but would like to hear about the Wreck clean up volume.

These two amps are mirror images, but don't exactly criss-cross. The GT is a dirty amp that can get clean and the Wreck is a clean amp that can get dirty. The Wreck doesn't have nearly the gain as the GT, but it excels at going from clean to overdrive to a very nice compressed gain tone. Unless you want extreme levels of gain, the Wreck does more and does it better. With the Wreck you don't need the volume knob, either. It can all be achieved with the pick attack. That being said, I'm keeping both.

That being said, I'm keeping both. If you hook them up in stereo (through a stereo pedal or an A/B/Y box in Y mode) and set them to the same volume, do they stay at the same (or very close to the same) volume when you back off on the guitar's volume knob? I haven't been able to find an amp that is compatible volume-wise (when rolling the guitar's volume back) to my GT. Everything I've tried (Delta 88, SRZ-65 LE, Mazerati, Galaxie, MAZ Jr NR, RXJr, JCM 2000 DSL 100, JCM 800, Mesa Nomad, Mesa Dual Rec, Mesa Mark IV) all drop out considerably in comparison to the GT when hooked up in a stereo rig. I have kind of given up hope of finding something that would work in a stereo rig w/ the GT. If you have both, I'd love to hear how they do connected in a stereo rig. If they stayed tight volume-wise, I'd be putting some stuff up for sale like Steve (benttop)...

I only have the one guitar, and it desperately needs to have a treble bleed cap installed. This makes volume knob experiments a little tricky. I did notice that the GT is quite a bit louder thant the Wreck at the same point on the amp's volume.
There is kind of a logarithmic effect with the Wreck's volume control. It works more or less "normal" up until the point where it starts compressing and then it comes on pretty quick. That's where the magic lies, in that narrow band IMHO.
I hope that helps.
