I received my maz jr. last week (large grin with a slight drool). I had the brakelite installed by the factory. But even with the brakelite set to 4, it still hurts the ears if I have the volume and master pushed beyond 10 o'clock and am sitting next to the thing. It this normal? I had expected to be able to dial in those sweet tones without annoying the wife, but the amp still rocks the house.
I guess if you're going to have problems in life, these are the type of problems to have--love this amp and appreciate this great forum.
Let me know your experiences with the brakelite.
Thanks,
Nick

I have a regular AirBrake. I hit the bedroom setting and then dial back the adjustable attenuator to tame it.

I guess that it’s all a question of how each of us perceives the loudness of the Maz at those settings. I for one don’t think it’s that loud or not to the extent of hurting my ears, but my wife wouldn’t be able to stand it though. Our home theatre is in the same room as my gear and there’s no way she’d be able to watch tv at the same time! The Maz just cuts in way too much (and that’s always a great thing of course!).
One question for you – How high is/are your guitar volume knob(s) set?

Hey Nbriejer, The Brakelite significantly drops your amps perceived volume, but you are right - it's still pretty loud in the home setting even when maxed out on volume reduction. So I'd say your Brakelite is functioning normally. That same volume in a typical club gig would not be loud enough and you'd have to turn the brakelite up to 3 or 2, or maybe even 1. For real "bedroom" level playing - like playing in the house when other folks are sleeping, requires the Air Brake by Dr. Z. This brake has one extra setting after 4, the so called "bedroom" setting that then engages a second knob which is used to continuously decrease volume all the way down to nearly a whisper. OK, not a whisper but quiet enough that you can talk quietly over it. Doesn't sound as natural as the other settings, but still it allows you to play while someone is asleep in the next room without being obnoxious and getting yelled at, and still with all the natural amp overdrive you want. There is a pretty good market on this forum and on eBay for selling these devices if you wanted to get an Air Brake - I'm getting ready to pick up 2 myself! The Air Brake is a bit more expensive, but sounds like it's what will work for you, and then you can get 75% (give or take) back out of your Brake Lite. Or keep it for second amp!
