I scrolled through the Galaxie pages and couldn't find an answer... If I want to run two 8 ohm Z Convertible Cabs, but use my Air Brake, can/should I "Y" cable the two cabs into the Air Brake (creating a 4 ohm load) and plug into the 8 ohm out? I know there were lots of questions about the speaker outs, but I wasn't sure when you factor in the Air Brake. I do have two Air Brakes, which I could use on each cab to maintain an 8 ohm load for both the "8" ohm out and the "Extension" out. But I didn't really want to tie up both of my attenuators for the one head. I know it's been stated that the Galaxie is robust and can handle a 4 ohm load, but I just wanted to be sure that I could "Y" two 8 ohm cabs to the Air Brake into the 8 ohm out. Am I OK rigging this up this way? Thanks in advance to all you experienced Galaxie players!

Nice question, I could spit out some words but someone with more knowledge will have to chime in.

The short answer is yes, it's fine. I emailed Brent about a month ago regarding the "ohms question" and here's the long answer.......... From Brent: "Technically the Galaxie only has an 8 ohm speaker out. Even when you use the parallel ext speaker jack you should be using two 16 ohm cabs to make an 8 ohm load. Will it work with a 4 ohm load...Yes. That transformer isn’t that fussy. You may go through tubes faster and you won’t be hearing the amp in the best way possible. We have a touring artist that has been running the Galaxie with a 4 ohm extension cab with zero problems for a good while. This stuff will get cleared up shortly. We'll be adding an FAQ page to the website. Thanks!"
So, considering that you're using an airbrake anyway, the tonal difference that you'll hear will probably be nil.
Another idea, is you could get a Y splitter wired up in series. They're more "risky" because you could potentially fry the OT if you left one side unplugged and turned the amp on, but it'll give you the correct load with just one airbrake. Anyway, hope that helped.

Thanks! I kinda figured that was the case. After going through some other threads about different speaker set-ups, and reading how stout the trany is, I figured 4 ohms was OK. I just wasn't sure in terms of using the Air Brake and the 4 ohm load.
It'd be nice to see something official on the Galaxie/speakers issue...
