does the rx jr have more gain than the maz with eq bypass, does the rx jr have as good a clean tone? I have seen some viedoes of the maz cant find any with the rx jr. I raelly like all the dr z amps i have heard but i think one of these might be for me.I play rock/blues sometimes metal . I have a mesa for that,i need a low watt amp. Ive listend to many amps i think i want a z.

I've owned both the RXJr and the MAZ Jr NR. I traded off my MAZ Jr. The RXJr has a good bit more gain. It is also more percussive than the MAZ Jr. In my opinion, the cleans of the RXJr were better and more complex than that of the MAZ Jr. While the RXJr is rated slightly lower than the MAZ Jr in terms of watts (15 for the RX and 18 for the MAZ), I couldn't tell the difference in volume between them. Both are quite gig worthy in small to medium sized venues. I've been told many times by sound guys to turn down w/ both of these amps. They are loud. Of my two heads, the RXJr had the better MV. The RXJr gave much better "Marshall" type distorted tones. I needed a pedal w/ my MAZ Jr NR to get the same level of dirt that I could get out of the RXJr by itself.
If you scroll through the MAZ Jr and RXJr pages, or go through the Sounds page, you'll find some direct comparison sound clips that Benttop (Steve) did w/ his RXJr and MAZ Jr. They'll give you a pretty good comparison of what each can do.
Like I said, I had both, but I kept the RXJr.
Good luck in your choice.

To my ears I think the RxJr gain is awesome.

I haven't experienced the Bypass Mod in the Maz Jr. yet, but... two different amps altogether. The EF86 and OverDose along with the type of Master Volume in the Rx Jr. make this amp as versatile as the Maz Jr. and in some ways more versatile. I had tried different EF86 tubes and some did make it harsh, but swapping back to another EF86 made it right again. The gain is different.... the Rx Jr. maybe has "longer hair" in it's drive, in my opinion. It compresses/sags/blooms different than the Maz. The different rectifiers and topology etc. make them different. But either amp will cover most bases... Listen to the samples, or better yet play them!
