I just picked up a Keeley BD-2 Phat the other day while in Denver, and WOW! Very cool!! It really lets my Maz shine the way it's supposed to. And I just paired it up with my AM DS-1 Super, and now I have the best of BOTH worlds! I use the DS-1 for Marshalleque rhythm and the BD-2 for leads...WOW! I've been spending my $$ in all the wrong places. Funny thing is they are set up almost exactly the same with the knobs Check em out for some instant thrills!!

He incorporates several mods on his BD2, and then there is the Phat switch...which sounds great when your amps volume isn't where it should be. One mod is for a more useful tone control. I had a BD2 a few years back and all I changed were the caps for the tone control mod. It did make it more useful, but it did'nt sound as good as this one.

The BD-2 is awesome for a lot of things....But for my tastes it doesn't exactly give me what I want if using it in higher gain applications. I use mine set from mild dirt in front of an already pushed amp, and works GREAT for rhythm playing. Good fit for Stones-type grind, or R&B stuff of the neck pickup of a Strat/Tele. Plus, it's got a nice, transparent sparkle to it. The Keeley BD-2 has quite a bit of gain on tap as you turn it up, but to me it sounds more like a fuzz at higher gain settings. So for Hendrix type stuff it might work great for you....but if you are looking for a soaring, focused lead tone it would just depend on your tastes and setup to see if the BD-2 would work in that application. I find the Keeley TS-9+ works better for the higher gain lead work. And by that I mean "vintage lead" type of stuff.. If you want heavier distorted leads, it might be better to go with something like a Keeley DS-1 or Fulltone Distortion Pro, which is a great pedal in it's own right.
