I'm not trying to beat the "wah" horse to death but I decided to start a new thread because this question is specific to Teese wahs.
So here goes, for those of who have used both the Picture Wah and the RMC1, is the volume boost in the RMC1 dramatic in that if you were switching the wah on and off during a song it would create a weird dynamic that you would have to compensate for in your guitars volume?
That's a weird question. Um... Let me see, I guess a simpler way to phrase it would be,
Is the volume boost natural sounding or does it really stick out, like something you would only want for solos?
And how does the RMC compare to the Picture Wah?

I have a RMC 1.
The boost is natural; meant to offset the loss you would notice when engaging a standard wah pedal.
It's a bit throaty, but in a good way. I generally find myself rolling back the volume on my guitar only if I'm going for a "background funk" feel. You're probably aware that the RMC 1 works best with single coil pickups if you've been to the RMC website.
Having never tried one, I can't comment on the picture wah other than to say it's supposed to replicate the sound of a good original "Clyde McCoy".

If you use any humbuckers Charlie look into the Wizard. I use a tele & a Les so that's the one I went with.

well, i only use single coils in my Strat but i've heard the Wizard works well for both. my only misgiving is that suped-up boost will stray to far from my vintage sort of sound. either way, it's not like they're hard to resell. i've pretty much decided on the teese, i just need to pick one and roll with it.

I've had both RMC1 and Pic wah...still have the pic wah. The boost on the RMC1 bothered me, it's not really all that big but it would OD my small wattage amps when I wanted a nice clean qucky wah tone. I'm about to add a Fox Rox mod to my wah (internal buffer) and you can adjust the trim pot on the mod board for either a boost/cut/unity.

I know Area 51 makes a buffer kit for standard wah pedals, too. I have been looking into getting one of these along with an Area 51 Italian inductor clone and true bypass for my Crybaby. I got a soldering iron and some solder and I've got a screwdriver... this will be interesting. I hope it's not too hard, as it's an old pedal. But these will make it sound nice. It's got the TDK cube-shaped inductor, the Area 51 is the "oil-can" type. FoxRox vs. Area 51? Who knows? All 10's for both probably on H-C... -Steve

Got my Teese Pic Wah yesterday. Super fat sounding wah, with a definite honk in the upper midrange of the pedal. That seems to be where the sweet spot is on mine. It's hard to explain the sweep range, it has a real "quack" to it. I'm thinking Clapton on White Room is what it sounds closest to. Great sounding pedal, worth the price? well i guess i'll have to see how it holds up, but then again, $235 ain't that bad considering that there is a 5 year warranty on all parts and labor.
also, Fat Sound Guitars rocks!!! i called up Monday, they took my order over the phone, and Tuesday when I got home from lunch it was waiting at my door. Excellent service. It's nice when i get to buy locally instead of having to get something shipped from Cali.
Anyway, i'm working on some clips and might need some help posting them but i've got get them recorded first.
later, charlie

Actually, I definitely still want to do the true-bypass and inductor upgrades on the wah, but if my signal is going out of the wah with a Y-cable into an AnalogMan CompROSSor and a Crowther Audio Hotcake, both into a routing unit with buffered outputs, is the buffered output upgrade on the wah called for at all? Both of those pedals are capable of boosting the signal some, and the buffers at the end of the signal (as well as the mixers for each amp's output) are going to raise the volume as well... What do you guys think?
Thanks,
-Steve

as i understand it the buffer is mainly to be used if your going into a very Fuzzy type device.

OK, so the mod's goal is similar to the volume boost of the described wahs- to compensate for the volume loss that occurs when using the wah into a fuzz. I've read that putting a pedal like a TS-9 or Hotcake in front of a vintage-style fuzz is not so pretty, so I wasn't sure what kind of volume boost we were talking about here... I suppose I will try that mod as well.
Thanks,
-Steve
