Vox Bulldog, Keeley "modded" pedals, Duncan Fuzz, tube screamers, Blues Drivers...Boss Delays, T-Rex, Maxon...Chorus? Reverb? Holier Grails? Compression, Ahh yes, compression...Keeley? Maxon? Boss?...other picks? MXR, Aqua Puss, blah blah blah...When did all these choices pop up? Back in the day we had the amps gain, period...I couldn't afford anything else after I bought the guitar and the amp.LOL So now I'm ready to spend some hard earned cash...Anyone at all: Favorite, best all time pedal, of any kind. Have a favorite overdrive that rocks with your Z? Compression, delay? Anything...let's get some honest, real feedback from the guys who know...the ones that have a Z.

I have weeded out all my expensive pedals, fulltones etc. in favor of my old stompboxes I collected throughout my teenage years. Used in moderation, they sound every bit as good as any $250 dollar pedal I've ever bought. Currently it is a mix of Boss (blues driver, DS-1) and Ibanez (tubescreamer) along witha Vox wah, Rocktron Delay, and EH Holy Grail. I've never been happier with my tone. As soon as I quit worrying about buying something to give me "that tone" and started twiddling knobs on the pedals I already had, I figured out how to get a good sound without going broke. Plus, the Z makes a lot of things sound far better than other amps, pedals included.

I am very happy with my current pedal board, although there isn't a boo-teek pedal to be found on it.
If I had to pick one pedal on my board that amazes me:
Overdrive: This is one pedal that that continues to blow me away and just sounds AWESOME to me: My cheapo Digitech "Bad Monkey". When running the MAZ master dimed and pre-volume to taste, this pedal rocks. I turn the Bass and Treble up real high on the pedal, and it gets this real throaty punchy overdriven sound that is just unbelievable for any price. Have to be careful with OD's though - running the pre-volume too high and the master too low on the amp and things can turn into mush pretty quickly.
There is a cool marriage of allowing the pedal to run into the amp front end with decent headroom left, and then pushing the finals (EL84's) to add the "jangle".
For the one pedal on the board that is ALWAYS on:
My Boss CS3. Does exactly what I need it to. My stock pickups in the Highway 1 Tele need a bit of compressor help, and the Boss does it well. The red led on that is never off on my board.
That's my picks.
Cheers,
Shawn

I had a Boss blue compressor about 10 years ago. It pumped so much I took it back. Have they been changed? I've been using a Guyatone ST-2. Sounds great and it's really small.

I've heard about those ST-2's, I may try that.
