You don't like Keeley's stuff very much do you? How is that BD-2 with your Maz 18? I used to have a BD-2 and did some of the basic mods to lower the treble spike and it was cool with Fender amps but if I recall right is was still kinda dark.

LOL! Well, actually, Robert has become a pal over the last year or so. We developed a great relationship when I was working with Gretchen Wilson, and was one of the band's favorite "gear guys" to work with. We had just about *everybody* using his stuff. Steel player used a Keeley Compressor/BD-2 for his lap steel rig, utility guy (fiddle, guitar) used a Keeley TS-9 with his electric rig, I had a bunch, and we even set Gretchen up with a Keeley Comp/BD-2 setup. She played electric occasionally on some chunky rhythm, and that was a cool setup with her Les Pauls and Gibson GA-30 amp. I LOVE the BD-2, and don't find it dark at all. It still sounds to me like a BD-2, but smoother and less harsh. Same pedal, just better. Still quite transparent and doesn't have near the midrange that the TS-9 has. I use mine for rhythm sutff.....Sounds great for mild dirt, especially through an amp that's already breaking. I never needed the "bass boost" from the togle switch he adds, so I can't comment much about it. I guess for certain things, it's cool. But I just use it with the toggle off, and all three knobs set around 10 o'clock. The Keeley Crybaby is awesome. The steel player and I both found two used, beat up stock Crybaby's to send him. The True Bypass makes all the difference, and the little internal faders that you can use to re-voice the wah is a hip trick. Again, I just use it as Robert set it up at the factory, and to my ears rivals any Teese or boutique out there.

Interesting - I have a Keeley BD-2 that I've been experimenting with for lower gain, on-the-edge hair kinds of sounds into my Maz Jr 2x10, and it just doesn't cut it. It has a very subtle, crackly kind of fizz to it at that level. For more crunchy stuff I like it though. Love the Keeley stuff though.

I really dig my Keeley BD-2, gain stays around 1:00 and lately I leave the pedal on most of the time through my Ghia. I bought the pkg. with the TS-9 and I am not so crazy about it. I've been using it as a clean boost kinda thing ?!?!

Well, another thing to consider is that I set my Z's fairly "dark." My treble is usually at 12' o clock on both my MAZ Sr and Jr, and the cut is rolled back to about 9 o'clock. That gives me good and warm tones, with still plenty of clarity. Another trick with setting the "high" controls rolled back is keeping the bass down, like on a Fender amp. The bass on my amps is usually set no more than 11 o clock. So with that setup, the BD-2 is GREAT for mild dirt. If you run your Z's a little brighter, then, yeah, I could see where the BD-2 might not do the trick. Keeley's a great guy and really knows his stuff!

By the way, a producer friend of mine just sent me a recent song I played on. Some girl from Texas, typical demo kind of stuff. If you guys want to hear the track ( DON'T blame *ME* for the mix, as the guitar is a little lower than I'd want it.....LOL), shoot me an e-mail and I'll send you the MP3. It's my Dunlavey Tele (really stock, vintage style with Fralins) into Keeley compressor and BD-2, then to the MAZ Jr 210.
