I use a Boss CS3 which I modified to be MUCH quieter, have a MUCH fuller sound, have a richer tone, not color the tone like stock, Warmer low end, and basically very transparent . I leave it on all the time because it doesn't interfere at all with the tone of my Maz 18 Jr. 210 when other comps do. It's that great! I couldn't be happier with a comp after 23 years of using them.

I've got an AnalogMan CompROSSor (Ross clone)... it was expensive ($215), but is really nice. I find that it sounds best when cranked, but this means that you lose the dynamics of that side. My setup is really complicated, with different signal paths and routing, so what I'm planning to do is have the CompROSSor on the clean side of the setup, and maybe build a parallel effects loop mixer ( www.moosapotamus.com "bass parallooper") so I can dial in a blend of wet/dry from the compressor. Always having the option trumps having made a choice... (at least in this situation) -Steve
