I've had a Rte 66 for about a year and have never used any reverb with it. It sounds great w/o reverb, of course, but I am considering adding reverb. My question is to other Z users who have added reverb to a non-reverb model -- what are you using and are you happy with the result? I've read a little about the Holy Grails, but it seems like they have a production problem as a significant amount of units have problems. Also, I don't want to lose sound quality no matter which unit I might use. Anywho, I'm happy to hear your experience... thanks.

For all the mixed reviews they get about build quality, I've had one for two years with no problems. It sounds fine with my Carmen Ghia, no noticeable tone loss.

if you're worried about losing sound quality when the effect is off, and you want to try a Holy Grail, you might want to order from Analogman: www.analogman.com/eh.htmI've been considering getting a reverb pedal as well, and it looks like he mods any Holy Grail he sells to to true bypass.

The Holy Grail like most or all the EH pedals are Holy Noisy..Strictly budget pedals..Only a Good stand alone tube reverb will do the job..but they are expensive ..try a bid of delay on your amp..maybe a Line 6 delay or another..T-Rex ( Sonny Landreth's choice)...not cheap either but adds alot of dimension without muddying up your tone..unless you need the surf thing..I thought I would never own an amp without reverb..but my Z-28 sounds huge with a bit of delay

sorry folks, but i have a holy grail, it sucked too much tone, i also had a spring reverb digital thing, rack mounted that was fair but they all are just not right. i think you have to go all the way with a real expensive tube type older fender reverb unit. BUT<<< hey thats the ticket hey dr Z how about a stand alone reverb unit? for sale even , ! mike clark did a few of them, and victoria has a stand alone unit for BIG BUCKS, how about the next item in the Z catalog alongside the Z attentuator: the Z-verb? how about it? do i have to start a separate post? surely he has thought about it. youve got digiverb and their cousin dilbert coming out with reverb units... lessee, it looks like , if you do the math,, a maz 18 NON reverb combo is about 150 or 200 bucks less than one that has reverb,, so there you go... come on lets unite,, sounds like a winner to me... well i am kidding , but in reality, it is not a bad concept,, a nice reverb unit when you want to use it for route 66, kt45, mazerati, carmen ghia, and other z amps that dont have reverb... i know he has thought about it,,, mebbe jus takes time,,,, exit stage left,,,

A friend of mine has a Holy Grail and when placed at the front end of an amp, it totally sucks. If you use the pedal through an effects loop, it sounds very nice.

How about the Boss RV's, Reverb and delay in one pedal. Ive never tried one, any opinions? I see that Gary Hooker with Brad Paisley uses one. Im in the market for one for my Maz JR NR.

I tried the RV-2, I think it was. he reverb was artificial and buzzy sounding.
YMMV

My Holy Grail was noisy.. I sent it back to EH and it was returned much improved. It seems as though they have some QC issues but when you get a good one it is a really nice sounding pedal. FWIW my Z28 also sounds great with a touch of shot delay in front, fattens the tone quite a bit. I rarely use either because the amp has such a big swirly 3d sound anyway I just don't miss the verb. I tried a Holy Grail into my Z28 and Ghia, and promptly sent it back...too noisy. Really didn't miss the reverb at all considering the richness of these amps, but recently added an Ibanez reissue AD9 delay. Quiet at all volumes and adds just a sweet touch of delay/slapback.

Thanks for all the input. Right now, I'm pretty convinced to hold off on reverb unless/until better and perhaps more affordable solutions are available.

It really is a shame that there are so few "good" reverb devices available. I use a HG, and agree that it is too noisy, but still, it appears to be the best pedal option available, and at only $99, well worth the money. The last thing most of us want to do is lug around a stand alone unit, that's as big (and nearly expensive) as a Ghia, just to add a little reverb now and then. I read lots of comments about the Boss RV5 and Digitech Digiverb (not very good), but wonder if anyone has experience with some of the other, less popular pedals - e.g., Onerr DR-1, Little Lanei, Dano Spring King, EBS Dynaverb?
