My new-to-me Galaxie arrived from Texas today! I pulled it out of the box, and went to rehearsal. W/ little time to mess w/ it before practice, I was able to quickly dial in two very usable tones on channels 1 & 2. I ran it through one of my Avatar 2X12s that is loaded w/ Weber's Greenback type speakers. I gotta tell you... I like tweed! I'll get more time latter this week to mess around w/ it more. I want to try a bunch of different speaker combinations. And I gotta get used to this channel switching stuff again. The Gal is a seriously cool amplifier! Thanks, Gasing4zs (Adam)!

Glad to hear ya like it! ;D The Gal is one cool amp. As far as speakers, you owe it to yourself to try a set of alnicos with it. As long as they can handle the wattage, that is. Very sweet! Although I haven't tried it myself, I hear that the Greenback(ish) combo you used works pretty well, too.

Hey Rich, Congrats on the Gal! It has sounded great with any cabinet I've run it through. My son is a relatively new guitar player and usually plays the amps around the house just as I've left 'em in terms of tone settings. He's had some trouble at gigs a few times cause, as he says, "I don't know how to dial in the tone like you do". Funny, I've actually gone up there and dialed him in on several occasions, as well as his other guitar player, too (young pups). But he said to me the other day after gigging with the Gal that he liked it cause it sounded good no matter where he had the dials set! And that's true, these amps sound great with just about any twisty dial setting!
Rock on,
jj

Don't forget the DRZ 4X10. The best tweed sound ever. ;D

All I could think about at work today was getting home to try different cabs and settings on the Galaxie! I have here at home a Mesa 4X10 loaded w/ Weber AlNiCo Blue Pups and AlNiCo Silver 10"s, a Z Convertible 1X12 w/ a Celestion Gold, another Z Convertible 1X12 w/ a Celestion G12-65, and two Z Convertible 2X10 cabs. At our rehearsal space I have the Avatar 2X12 w/ Weber Greenbacks, another Avatar 2X12 w/ Celestion G12H-30s, and that Mesa 1X12 w/ the EVM12L. I liked the Greenbacks. But I'm looking forward to trying the 4X10 w/ Weber's AlNiCos and the Z 1X12 Convertibles w/ the Gold and the G12-65. I'll keep you posted...

I don't think you can go wrong with all those speaker combinations.

Shouldn't that be a NAD??? Nope. It's New Galaxie Day! ;D I was just being a little more specific than NAD...

Hey Rich, You've described the Mazerati in detail to me before, and thanks for that. I'd be interested in you comparing it tone-wise (not gain-wise) to the Gal for me. Would give me a better understanding of the Mazerati. Still intrigued by a dial in the gain machine like the 'Rati, but I've already bought too many amps this year! Gotta pay myself back for a while. And Im not really a gain monster anyway, just like to dial it in so that at full guitar volume I get some nice nazz. I like the way someone recently described it here on Ztalk (who was that Einstein?): take it up to the edge of distortion, "that's where I live.". But seems the 'Rati would be sweet to be able to just tweak the volume knob a touch to add or dial back a skosh 'O gain

I've only had two opportunities to spend some quality time w/ the Galaxie. I'm hoping to get a little more time w/ it this extended weekend. Just in the short amount of time I spent w/ it, I have noticed that it has a much looser bottom-end than the GT or SRZ. That's not meant as a criticism; just an observation. I actually find it to be kind of cool - it has that gritty, loose, vintage vibe. So far I've run it through that Weber Greenback loaded 2X12 and the Mesa 4X10 loaded w/ Weber's AlNiCo Blue Pups and Silver 10"s. I'm sure those speakers helped contribute to my observations. For the most part, I don't run my GT maxed out. I keep the Volume around noon. That allows a lot of control w/ the guitar's volume knob. W/ just a little roll-off on single coil equipped guitars, I can get some pretty nice cleans. I've kind-of been against the general consensus of the GT being a "Gain Monster." I'll keep ya posted...
