I have the Route 66 overdriving and just use either the Fulltone Fatboost or the Fulldrive2 on compression cut for leads if I need it. I am however going to get everything Dave Ulbrick makes as his pedals are outstanding!!! I do have his Pro-Octave fuzz which is lots of fun.

Main OD type pedals: Ibanez TS9 and a Bad Cat 2Tone. Sounds amazing with the Bad Cat tube floor pedal!
Previous pedal setup in entirety: Boss Tuner Pedal, Morley Wah Bad Horsie, MXR Phase 90, Ibanez TS9, Mesa Boogie V-Twin Tube Pre-amp pedal, Line6 DM-6, Morley Volume Pedal Little Alligator ... all housed in a Palmer Direct pedal system built in Nashville.

I've been "integrating" w/ my 2-week new Z28 + Z2x10 cab. My current boost/od situation is currently Analogman stuff: sunlion, beano boost, and "silver" TS-9. I'm patiently waiting for the KOT. My overdrive/crunch/lead sound has evolved since I got this amp. I run the amp hot, and I "control" everything from the guitar volume/tone/pickup combination (Heritage 335-alike, SD p'ups). I've noticed that the boost pedals in particular are really mostly effective only when the amp itself is already driving. (I don't think I'm surprised by that at all.) Granted, I consider this part of "integration," like I'm learning how the amp likes to talk and to be spoken to. I like all my analogman pedals into this amp - for my "band gig" they cover everything I need for the gig (covers and more covers). I'm more interested in my "personal sound development" in this post. One day I'll sneak it into the gig and change the world forever Are people using OD pedals into otherwise clean amps, or are they augmenting the amp's naturally driven characteristics? What pedals do you think mate better with either condition (clean amp vs. driven amp)? Since I've been using Airbraked amps for a while, I'm kind of used to having the given amp hot no matter what I've got going into it. Thanks! ps - whatever happened to the Pro Co RAT pedal? Are the new ones cool? I mean, $80 seems really reasonable. I remember the 80s, and I remember liking ones that my friends used then. I see guitarists I appreciate have them on their boards (Frisell & Scofield come to mind). pps - I'm going to dig out my old 80s OD-1, and I've got a Bartolini Tube-It I'd like to try as well. hmm!

Yeah I love nothing more than to get the my Maz JR really cooking and then uses a Tubescreamer with the volume up and the gain down to push the front end into oblivion. But alas, I rarely get to play at that volume. Most circumstances force me to play the amp a little cleaner with a mild breakup mimiced by the tube screamer and then leads supplemented by a BD-2 or a DS-1 depending on whether the song is Bluesy Rock or Eighties Rock. Haven't tried the new Rat, but if you like the Analog Man stuff, check out he DS-1. It's pretty cheap, lasts forever, and definitely does the high gain thing. charlie

I'm using an HBE Germania treble booster which sounds amazing with my Maz Jr. I've seen a lot of posts where people use treble boosters with Zs. The Germania really does make the amp sound like it's at full tilt at a low volume; unlike any overdrive pedal I've tried. I also have a Boss OD3 which is great for a bit of crunch or for when I want a less aggressive lead.

To: terryg I've been on the list for a KOT since June or July of '04. How long have you been waiting? I don't even use o/d pedals now but if he tells me he's got one I'll take it. It's a little ridiculous to think thay can't get around to making pedals. I suggested one time that he gets someone to mass produce a budget version and keep the hand made ones as "boutique" and an upcharge for them. I suggested it to up their cash flow and perhaps get a pedal sooner. Mike said that was a good idea. Still no pedal. I happen to believe that a good pedal will always be good just like high-end stereo gear will always sound good, obsolete or not.

Go with the TC Jaurneg boxes. The DGTM or, even better, the Gristle King which combines it with the Fulldrive. This is one sweet tube-driven overdrive with immense control capabilities.
I play a Maz Jr. with 2X12s and love the amp. The Gristle King unit is great and actually is two in one, you can use them separately or together. Absolutely the best OD sound I've ever gotten.
If you ever saw Freddie King live in the old days, he'd be playing then really punch a string and just hold it, shake it and carry it into that perfect blend of string tone and feedback ---not over- doing it, but just the right amount to put that BIG accent on the note. With my Z and my Gristle King I can get that exact sound. Also, BB's old wooly sound (back before he started using the Line Six) when he'd get that distorted bassy sound and then do the same thing on his old Fender amps---you can get that sweetness as well. Best distortion I've ever heard---warm, not harsh, and yet really full of beef.
Couldn't believe how good it was til I tried it. There's a good review on this box on Harmony Central, as well.

Keeley BD-2, Keeley TS-9 plus mod. Hey Teleberry, describe that SD-1 mod (Ultra? SEM?) if you don't mind. I've been thinking about getting one of those. I'm wondering how it sounds in comparison to an 808.

hey everyone- using Fulltone Fulldrive 2 Tube Works Real Tube (w/ 12AU7 tube- less gain, more usable drive) germanium '69 fuzz clone pedal (generalguitargadgets.com) Fulltone fatboost ZVex Vexter Fuzz Factory Big Muff Pi (w/ capacitor mods to decrease woofiness)
Alessandro power attenuator (the 'Muzzle') (other pedals- fulltone clyde deluxe, line 6 delay modeler)
most times w/ humbuckers its Route 66 amp itself cranked w/ a little attenuation, best sound IMO; with single coils fat boost always on w/ a little real tube or fuzz factory for adding little hair...

I miss my Matchless Hotbox.... I can't believe I sold the damn thing back in '96. I used it to bump the front of an AC50 that I had at the time and it was incredible - so much liquid sweet tone and harmonics... Now they're like $400 bucks!
