Has anyone tried using the line out from a Weber attenuator to use as a feed into their effects rig and then into a clean amp/pair of amps? Just curious as to how the line out tone sounds.

Good question my friend,
I have an older Weber Mass 25 with DI output and treble, bass and middle controls that I run into the stereo effects return jacks of a solid state Fender sidekick 20 amp(no kidding).
I find the Sidekick 20 to be quite transparent, and use the volume knob on the MASS, as the volume on the Sidekick 20 is bypassed, leaving only the stereo chourus which is great.
I have put external speaker jacks in the Sidekick 20 and run it into a 2 12 cabinet wired in stereo. The loudness of this setup is definately enough for a basement wanker like me.
Now to your question, I did try a friend's Mini MASS with line out and no DI in a similar setup. If I remember correctly, it was not as versitile and did not have the tonal range of the DI output.
Good to talk with a fellow CG/Weber owner.
Carl.

I did this a couple times using the line out from my Hot Plate. I couldn't get used to having an "all wet" amp. I'm sure it sounded fine out front, but depending on where I stood, it sounded great, not so great, or awful.

I'm not planning to do a wet/dry setup but was just curious if the line out was even usable or if it had the typical thin buzz saw direct sound. There is always someone here that has tried most anything that is asked. Great place for sharing information.

According to Ted Weber - the line out from the Minimass is the wetsignal from the amp out. That is - if you have an effectsloop engaged in the amp or a pedal stuck in front of the amp - the effect will be present at the line out from the Minimass.
The attenuator does not affect the line out signal.

I have a Mini-Mass 50 watt on order. I am going to be working in a group that uses in ear monitoring with very low stage volume. The drummer has the Roland V-Drum system and produces almost no stage volume. I plan to attenuate the Ghia and close mic it to feed the PA/monitoring system. I will experiment with the line out and the attenuator turned all the way down to act as a dummy load/DI but I will be surprised if the line out direct to the PA sounds nearly as good as actually micing the speaker. I will report back with the results after I run the test. I know this comes up a lot in church gig situations.

You really need a speaker emulator to make this sound half-way decent.
I have a Behringer DI box that has a 4x12 cabinet simulator on it. I haven't tried it with the Mass yet, but I should. Maybe I'll do some experiments and record them...

I suspect I will simply close mic it with my volume as low as I can get away with. If I can keep it down to a level that is low enough to talk "LOUD" over it should be ok.

Since I cant keep my fingers out of anything - I opened up my Minimass just a minute ago. Far as I can se the "line out" is simply fed directly from the "From amp" input via a 27 kOhm resistor. ( if I read the color-codes correctly - difficult to see without daylight ) Cheers: Dixiechicken
