Just got my new Vintage Guitar today. Right up front is an ad for the Bad Cat attenuator. I'm happy with my Air Brakes, I have one from Kendrick and of course, Dr Z. Curious to see how this one is priced and sounds.

Kind of a catchy name.

Soundclips up on the site. Quite impressive, but since benntop's "attenuator test" I'm not sure sure WHICH attenuator you use, as long as it's a high-quality one. My Weber Mini-Mass has served me well.

I placed an order for one from Elderly. I couldn't find out any info on the new Mini Z's built-in attenuator, so I thought I'd give this'n a try!

The "Leash" requires 120v That, too me, is a hassle.

Wonder what the power is for? Fan?

It has a fan, so I'd guess 'yes'.

The "Leash" requires 120v That, too me, is a hassle. Only for the fan. It'll attenuate just fine without the fan. Altho I don't know for how long depending on how much power you're pumping thru it. A few people over at TGP run them this way.

120V is for the built in fan only. there was a photo of the inside posted at TGP and it showed that the device was strictly a resistive device (rheostat, resistors and caps). i can't imagine it sounding **significantly** better than Airbrake.

Any scoop on the unit? How well does it work with your Z's Ed I placed an order for one from Elderly. I couldn't find out any info on the new Mini Z's built-in attenuator, so I thought I'd give this'n a try!

The Leash just got a great review in the Jan '08 Guitar Player (and so did the Classic Cat). I would love to hear if anyone has had any experience with it.

I'd like to hear the Classic Cat but if it's another 80 pound 1x12 combo I won't bother.

That review in Guitar Player had some mis-information in it. It said the Leash is the only attenuator on the market with "continuous" (or did they say "infinite"?) control over attenuation level, instead of going down in steps, like the Airbrake and Hotplate. But the Weber attenuators have always done this.

Perhaps Bad Cat is an advertiser...

Bad Cat spends a TON of $$$ in most of the major rags. Ever notice just how little Z spends on marketing and advertising? Hands on and word of mouth still prevail in effectiveness. And, people still do business with people they like. Especially when the product is top shelf. Right on.

At least Badcat FINALLY spent some $$$ on the website. FINALLY. It's the best it's ever been.
FINALLY!

ruger9, do you have a Bad Cat? If so which one and do you like it? I've never played one but see a lot around.

No, but I've always wanted one. Currently, if I had the cash to get a Badcat, I'd get the Panther. 6V6's, EF86 channel. Or the Tremcat- trem & reverb, EL84's, EF86 channel.
I don't see alot around here (NJ)- there's only one licensed Badcat dealer anywhere near me- and it's 90min away, so I go only occasionally. However- I did play another amp side-by-side with a Badcat, and I actually came home with it... the Genz Benz Black Pearl. I call it the "poor man's Badcat." It really is a stellar amp, despite the fact it's not PTP handwired. If you like the tone & feel of the Badcats, you should really check out the Black Pearl.

I've always wanted to try a GB. Ironic, but I can't find a dealer for GB within 50 or so miles from me. Tell ya what, you buy me a Black Pearl - I'll buy you a - no wait that's not even money. Ah forget it. ;D Seriously, I will seek one out and play it before I spend the bucks on a BC. You may have just saved me big $$'s. Thanks man.

Don't mention it. If you head over to TGP, and do a search for "Black pearl" you will find several long informative threads all about the BP.

Wow - they actually "stole" the Doc's description of the Air Brake word for word! I don't know if MusicToyz or Bad Cat did it, but that's pretty weak.

Premier Guitar had a little review of the Leash. they said it sounds the same as other good attenuators.
