I've just recently stumbled upon a '66 Super Reverb and looked here to see if I could use my Airbrake with it.
Super Reverbs are 2ohm output amps.
We've got some people here on the forum that say the Airbrake is bad for 2ohm amps.
We've got some people here saying they run Airbrakes all the time with a Vibro-King and it's also 2ohms.
We've got another guy that tried an Airbrake on a Vibro-King and got a bad distortion sound that made him scared. (would me too)
We've got some people saying they run an Airbrake on a Bassman Clone at 2ohms no problem.
So, which is it???
es okay, or no es okay??

Check out my recent thread ... I am the guy who used the Airbrake with the Vibroking. Without changing the volume on the amp, the more I brought the volume down with the Air Brake, the more distorted it got - and not a nice distortion. I would love to hear from the Dr. on this. The Air Brake works FINE with my Stingray and Maz Jr.....

yours is one of the ones that I read when I came here looking for info. and the one that I'm referring to above.

The thing is, as has been stated, the Airbrake is for amps with 4 to 16 ohm output (I wish it actually said that on the web page, but I digress). Since both of yours are lower output impedance, it may or may not work. However, there is definitely a chance that you'll blow your output transformer. That's not good. If I had one of those amps I would consider another device just for my own peace of mind. I don't know if Weber's products support 2 ohms, but you can get the THD Hot Plate in a 2 ohm version. I see a lot of folks dis the Hot Plates, but I've been using them successfully for a number of years here, and I think when used properly they rock. As in anything, YMMV.

Hard to say really. Technically it may be just fine with a 2 Ohm load. But the sonic results may be not desirable. Part of that amps charm is that it pushes the alnico speakers something fierce, and make it more musical. I had an AB for a long time but never used it much because the speaker is such an integral part of the amp, and when you attenuate the amp, the speakers are pretty much taken out of the equation. Although the AB is the best Attenuator I've ever heard.
I think it would be ok to use the AB with a 2ohm load, but it may just not sound very good with a Super Reverb, or Vibro King.

Weber's MASS has an imedance selector that goes to 2 ohms.

So, what we're saying is "maybe, but probably not"

So, what we're saying is "maybe, but probably not" Nah, I think I'm saying "probably, but I wouldn't do it"

Im with Steve. If your amp has only a 2 ohm tap, and the Aibrake is designed to handle an impedance of 4-16 ohms, that is an impedance mismatch, and I would not continue to use it.

So, what we're saying is "maybe, but probably not" No Aaron I do not recomend the airbrakes forany 2 ohm load amp. DR.Z

and there you have it!!
I'm still keeping both of'em though....indispensable tool for me. Thanks for making them DR.Z, and thanks for clearing the air.
