I have and love my Mazerati, but for now I only play at home. Which would be the better sounding setup for home and recording? Plugged straight into the Mini, or to use an OD pedal into the Rati with the Air Brake?
I could get the AB for $300 or sell the Mazerati, find a Mini and use the leftover cash for other things.
I'm using a P-90 equipped LP Special and a Budda Phatman OD.

I have owned the mini z and currently own an air brake....................but, for practice, around the home, nothing beats my $150 crate. CD inputs, 12 watts.............built in effects.
IMO the air brake is best suited as a "live playing" tool. Or for loud practicing where you wanna give your ears a break, but, still wanna maintain the feel of a cranked amp. Mostly though, IMO its a tool that really shines in a live setting.
Attenuating a high wattage amp to "bedroom" levels causes things to get a little out of balance......your tone is definately compromised this way.
The only problem with the "mini" as your sole amp is that it won't get you a crystal clean tone.............you can back your G volume down, but, things will still be a little "smokey".

I'm using a P-90 equipped LP Special and a Budda Phatman OD. If you don't ever plan to play out, then that would be a good choice. But a lot of it will also depend on whether or not you need a clean sound, as the Mini doesn't have much of that clean headroom. Using an Airbrake will definitely quiet down the Mazerati, but with that much attenuation (bedroom level), you may find the tone is a bit different (I run my RxES on 3 at most of the small places I play in and it's still pretty loud). If you plan to play out at some time, I would suggest keeping the Mazerati and your better bet may be to forgo the Mini (unless cash isn't the problem) and perhaps just getting a smaller amp for practicing, like a Vox AD30VT/50VT. You could coax a similar tone out of those amps, they cost less than the Mini and have master volume as well as an attenuator built in (at least the 50VT does). I believe a AD30VT is under $300. Just a thought. tomtheguitarguy
