I'm using an air brake with an old 60's Fender bandmaster into a small Yamaha 2/10 4 ohm cab. Everytime I hook up the air brake it blows a fuse in the amp after playing for about 5 minutes. I am using speaker cables to hook it up. Anybody know why this is happening?

The simplest reason is bad output tubes, otherwise - off to the tech.

If you're running the amp wide open, and the bias is not properly set, you could easily "red plate" the output tubes and blow a fuse. How long has it been since your amp was properly biased?

I just got the amp back from the shop where it was re-tubed and re-biased. Also had brand new caps put in.

Hope your amp is doing fine with fresh tubes. That should solve the problem.

The amp sounds great without the attenuator, and the tubes are fresh, but it's loud (40 w). The air brake blows the fuse as soon as I max out the amp. I think there may be something wrong with the air brake. It used to work fine.

Something's not right. Maybe the tech dialed up the bias a little too warm for wide open operation. It might be worth a consult with him on this. Well, you could actually verify if this is the problem by playing the thing wide open without the airbrake - yeah, it's going to be loud, but if the bias is too warm for that you'll pop a fuse again, and then you can isolate the problem. If it doesn't pop a fuse, maybe you're right - could be something broke in the Airbrake.

I was able to play through the amp with it wide open without popping a fuse. There must be something wrong with the Air Brake. Where's the best place to send it for service? I bought it off ebay, so I don't think I'm covered under warranty...
