I got my first higher end amp last month. An awesome used Fender Vinro king. The thing has massive tone..but most times just WAY too loud for my basement playing ( Old guy here) When it hits its "sweet" spot; things are literally falling off the walls.
I was thinking of getting an airbrake. The local dealer here said on some of the fender amps...they dont have much effect. He said it might not quiet it down to low-level volumes at home. Any have experience or comments?

The dealer is wrong. An Air Brake will work just as well on this amp as any other. The only trick is that with each click down in volume you lose a little life from the amp. The most versatile scenario is an Air Brake down a click or two and a good overdrive pedal. Lots of discussions in the Effects column about o/d pedals.

I think Z air brake would work well for you.Set tone on your amp to your desire and click the Zair brake 2 or 3 clicks above bedroom level depending on how loud you want it,that is it.Z brake is not ohm dependent.

Hey Mikest, I usewd to own a V King.......lush reverb! I think the Airbrake would do wonders with that amp. Especially with that low level OD setting on the v king where the mid is nearly dimed and the T and B are barely on. let us know!

hey mike, just to make sure you make a good purchase, there have been a few people that complain that it fails to do as advertised in the "bedroom mode". I'm not one of them but it sounds like your dealer may be, and there have been others. I think the problem lies in expectations, ..ie ... what is "bedroom" to one is NOT bedroom to another. A pretty well dimed out 40 watt-ish amp, will be substantially attenuated, but, ... it is NOT whisper, wont wake someone in the next room, quiet. If your expecting to fire up say at midnight, or so, with the rest of the house dead quite, and bust out a few licks, it will seem , whoa!... still pretty loud. Now during the daytimes hustle and bustle, i think most folks will be in good shape, unless there trying to sleep in the next room. So just keep that in mind, the term bedroom, has apparently fooled a few people into negative reviews, when it's really an awesome product, especialy for stage work and rehersals, to take the edge off the volume. And remeber the more you attenuate the more some of that magic airyness of the fender is gonna get squashed. If you need truly bedroom conversation level volume, maybe follow some of the guy's rec's about using a pedal with, or try to buy one somewhere with a return policy and try it at home. It's an awesome professional tool that works for hobbyist's too! Good luck,... nice amp!

Any have experience or comments? Just another suggestion: I've been blowing my ears out in the house for years with high powered Z's. Picked up a SF Princeton recently...killer basement amp. Use the Stingray now for bigger rooms, Princeton for real small stuff...and NO appreciable compromise in tone.

Bill, This Vibrolux is VERY cool. The stocker 10's are fragged, but pluged into my Z 1x12 with a Texas Heat..WOW !!!
Same tones as the Princeton Reverb but with more gusto !!! I like the Vibrolux a bunch.

I like the Vibrolux a bunch. Yes, but have you seen the recent prices on a SF Vibrolux?! Ouch. I'm taking the Fender along with the 'Ray to a sold out 100 seat gig this weekend, and plan to A/B the two for some most killer tone. Actually both my bands are playing and I plan to use the 'Ray with the LOUDER band with 3 guitars and steel, the Princeton with the quieter NORMAL 2 guitar band! Apologies for hijacking the thread mikest, I'm done now. ;D
