So I am playing a large, outdoor concert this weekend and I will have the luxury of a FOH mixer and monitor mixer, with a Meyer and JBL soundsystem! Yeah! A nice change of pace!
So I thought I should get my stereo rig in order. Since not every show am able or encouraged to bring multiple amps. And boy, I found a great pairing, like wine and cheese or Brazilian girls and bikinis- the EZG-50 and the SRZ-65!
The key to this rig right now is that I am going through my pedalboard (which currently is smaller than before, thankfully) and sending a mono output to a Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. The TTE is set to mode 2 (A out- dry + minimal delay B out- dry + lots of delay) and A- goes to the SRZ and B goes to the EZG. Wow. Both amps are working together to create my main tone, with no pedals engaged. The SRZ is on the cusp of crunch, where it can be clean if picked lightly with single coil guitars and then when you dig in, there is crunch. The EZG-50 is set totally clean with lots of reverb...lots.
This is such an incredible sounding rig and it allows me to be as loud or quiet as I want, without attenuators or any extra gadgets. Both the SRZ and EZG sound great at even their lowest volumes, although obviously, they get better as they get louder ;D.
Pros:
Incredible dual amp sound- the EZG-50 adds clarity and depth to the rich sound of the SRZ, set lightly crunchy.
Flexibility- any volume, any room or outdoor venue
Stereo delays- incredible.
Clean tone- no pedals
Rhythm tone- Fulltone OCD (chewy, slightly "Marshall tone" here)
Solo tone- Fulltone + Xotic AC boost = heaven!!!
So this is the current setup. I was using the two amps as a clean and dirty, one for rhythm work and one for solos. That is fine to do also, but currently I am really loving the tone out of both amps running all the time and kicking on boosts for solos! I guess I can never decide on the "sound" for too long!
