I am getting a ton of high end out of my Rx Jr, even with the treble all the way down, when I use the bride pickup on my strat. It sounds god when playing thru a lot of overdrive, but when playing semi-clean it's just piercing. I'm playing through blues too, and I always thought of them as pretty warm speakers. Any suggestions?

What are all your settings (other than treble)? I think the magic control on that amp is the Mid knob. Try turning it all the way up (you may want to back it down some, but try it that way first).
In general, the bridge pickup on a strat will be very bright if it is not connected to a tone control. Also, if you're talking about Celestion Blues - my opinion is that they are bright, not warm.

Roll your tone nob back on your guitar 2,3, or 4 notches that way you can return to that heavey OD sound.
By the way that sound your talking about is the sound I miss the most by not having a RxJr/blue combo here.

If your Celestion Blues are new they will be brighter than when they are broken in. I play my Junior only through 2 Dr Z convertible cabs, one with a single G12H, the other with a pair of Z's proprietary 10"s. That combination is really good for the Junior. Not at all bright.

Sometimes a NOS EF86 with the dark screen may darken the tone a bit more.
It did for me.

I'm so odd and average - I almost always have treble, bass and mid all pointing at noon. It's the low end I may have to back off on occasion.
It may mean a tube swap is in order as bluzman suggested. Are you using any stompbox that may have gone funky on you?

Stout, that is not odd at all to me. I used to play it clean at high noon all the time and would generaly on add a bit of treble as my string lost some brightness. Dirty metal style through the 4x12 is a bit different but most of my time on it was high noon.
Maybe I burnt those tubes in for the sweet spot to be there.

Hey guys -- sorry I'm just getting back on here. One thing that sucks is my strat tone controls adjust the middle and neck pickups, not the bridge, so I'm kind stuck there. One thing that does help is to back off the guitar volume slightly when using the neck pu.
Maybe that tube change Bluzman suggested would be the way to go.

one of those groove tube 12ax7c's might be the way to go, you can find them fairly easily,, they are not as bright as some 12ax7s. i have one i used it for that. it might be a cheaper way to go than a lot of money for a different ef86,,, i had an rx jr once, and i think it had one 12ax7, one ef86 and two el84s right? boy those things scream when you dime em...

Man I would rewire that guitar for just treble roll off. One for the neck middle and one just for the bridge pickup if you need that flex. Are they vintage style? Would understand if you kept it the same, but you should also look into how G&L wire three pickups. It's very nice.

go to the kinman pickup site and rewire the pickups to the 7 way setup, you will have volume and tone knobs and then a blend.....youll see once you look at it. then just roll the treble off for all the pups...
