I really have not played my 2001 RX 212 combo for years. It has always been one of my favorite amps but has been too loud for most applications. I have been using my Ghia instead. However, with the volume at two o'clock, the Ghia is loud as well. I have never liked pedals. About 1 1/2 years ago, my wife bought me an OCD (V4). I have never liked it because it always made the Ghia sound splattery with too much fshizzle as if the amp could not handle the signal. On a whim, I tried the OCD on the RX. Wow!! Great, uncolored, articulate crunch at low volume. Sounds like the RX is cranked!! I am glad I took the beast out of moth balls.

Thanks for sharing, I have one RX original model head on layaway and almost ready to purchase it and one of the things I hear is that the amp is not pedal friendly. I have an OCD and would love to try it when I get the amp. Thanks!

Sure thing mcclassic. To be sure, the original RX sounds best with no pedals cranked to about 2:30. In fact, I would say it is the best sounding amp of all time. However, that volume setting is equal to a cranked 100-watt Plexi. Too much for this day and age (although it still feels good). I think my RX is much more pedal friendly than the Ghia. A hot signal from a pedal can squash the two 84's in the Ghia but my RX sounds nice and tight with the OCD.

Yes, that's the feeling I got from the amp, very loud, and tone as a crancked marshall.
Thanks!

guitarcrusher, I decided to not to get the head... reason is I just found a 2x12 blonde combo (I think is '98) that it will cost me almost same as the head!
I would have prefer the head for carry it and space but the offer was very good to pass it. As soon as I finish the deal (hopefully) I will try my OCD too!

mcclassic,
My RX is the same configuration. Both speakers are g12h which I think go great with that amp. Congrats!! I love my Ghia (I bought both amps new in 2001) but the RX is my alltime favorite!! If you ever have the opportunity, crank it up to about 3 o'clock with a Lester. We are talkin' "Just Got Back From Baby's" and "Neighbor Neighbor." The OCD does make it sound great at lower levels.

guitarcrusher, thanks, I will for sure crank it I love to test the boundaries of an amp. I have a CG too a 2008 but had not much chance to play it yet.
I hope to get the amp in a week, very nice amp, by the way I have a couple of Mavericks and they have the same colors and tube configuration (except they are 4x10)... strange...hehe

Careful mcclassic. You'll "test the boundaries" of neighborhood noise-limit codes and anything made out of glass long before the amp's boundaries will be reached!! But that thang sho' feels good!!

Hi again, just a follow up note... from your comment with the OCD pedal, the amp goes into a glorious marshall tone with the OCD pedal, love it!
Thanks for the advice it make it great tone, great distortion into in a more controlable volume.

I add my vote for an OCD with the original Rx. I used a Fulltone FDII in front of my Rx for years as my main crunch tone back in my regular gigging days. I hadn't gigged for years and very recently had the opportunity to do a reunion show with my old band. I decided to try the OCD with the Rx. Plugged it in, hit one chord, and was instantly sold. It's a great pairing.

Exactly, I was having my doubths about the amp for being a little too loud and then I remember this tread and gave it a try... man, as warmlion said...one chord was enough....wow...
