I for one was glad to see John a lot on stage...and I'll tell you why. We all have seen John's incredible SRV/Jimi based playing, but no one has mentioned what a killer rhythm player he is. I mentioned it to Amy again this year. He can play a lot of notes but when someone else is soloing he knows how to drop back and support the other player and the song. My videos clearly show this. I'll be getting them up soon.
As far as the Z-wreck goes, John, Tony, and Frankie (among others) showed that it's one incredible, versatile amp. It's world class in every respect.

So the Remedy is still the Rock'n Roll King of Z amps? As good as the z-wreck does country and stuff, it still is an amazing rock amp. When Eric played through it at the jam they were definitely not playing country and it wailed! Also to those asking about the wattage, I asked one of the guys at the shop (sorry I can't remember his name.. we'll just say... not Brent ) and he said it's around 30 watts. Also i believe it was the doc that said this, that the amp pretty much peaks at a certain volume and after that it just gets dirtier not louder. Also to who ever it was that asked about the stangray combination, Doc said the trainwreck rocket was based around an ac30 design so I'd think it should be a really sweet combo to mix the cleans of a stangray and the holy grail drive of the zwreck together.

WOW that is chopped up, but the idea of a amp maxing out a certian volume and only the gain comming on seams like a great thing to me. I could make a boost pedal work in ways that it can not with a clean amp. Like it goes from loud to way to loud. Interesting to say the least. Can't waite to actual hear what this thing sounds like. Anyone like to compair to the RXES Or RxJr?

Not as much drive as an RxEs (or Jr) but more complex and 3D grit. Chimey like the Stangray, but again even the cleans seem more complex. I hate to keep using the word 'complex' but I really can't think of any other way to describe the sound.

The compression at full out is pretty damn dreamy.

No grumbling from me....it was just when I got there, Bay and the organizers appeared very concerned that we were only to play play two songs, and short ones at that. And to tell ya the truth Doc himself wanted me and Butch Armstrong to play a set or so , to show off the amps and some of the pro's from Cleveland. So that's what I walked in expecting....No biggie, I went to another gig after, and played for four hours ! Just wanted to set the record straight.....

While this is off topic starrman, many people travel many miles and spend a lot of money and plan their vacation to happen at Z-Fest, with highlights for some personally being on a nice stage with a nice sound system and nice back line of Z-Amps to play one or two songs through. Last year many of us made this trek for the first, second or third time hoping for that opportunity but it never happened for some of us. I was one of those, and in all honesty I wanted to play and was ready, but time ran out as some played more than a couple of toons.
Put yourself in their place and consider that.
If you want to show us a pro Cleveland player, invite us to your gig like others have done each year and maybe some of us will show up. If I knew where Butch Armstrong was playing I may have gone to that. Or you could really participate in Z-Fest by hanging out and jamming with us at the hotel. You had most of us as a captive audience Friday anyways. Sometimes it's cool to be on the audience side for a different perspective while us common players are hopefully able to be taking the stage.
As far a the Z-Wreck, I liked what I heard.

May I have a moment to myself on the "wreck." I can't imagine having that and my beloved Remedy side by side with a switcher.
I will die happy if I have the opportunity to own a Wreck and give it so my son..........
Yes, this statement is extreme and base on faith. Well, I got #13 Remedy so it is easy for me to place faith.
Peace

bluzman, that is exactly why I went with the program, and played 2 quick tunes and got off the stage.....Did I do something wrong here? My buddy DR Z asked me to play a set with Armstrong, what should I have said..no way man? Anyone who was there saw that.....I played a couple quick tunes and got out. And for the record, the Wreck sounded great ! Don't forget, Z and I go way back, near 30 years.....he used to fix our amps mine and Armstrong's, and others. He even went on a road trip with my band as sort of a amp tech, and just to help out in general to NYC. If you traveled a long way, spent money and didn't get to play, I'd go complain to those who played more then they were supposed too. I went with the program to a tee, so others could play, out of respect.....even played bass some Fri. to keep a jam going behind English John and friends......in the VHW Hall. You guys are starting to bum me out.....I played the Wreck several months ago anyway !!!

The Saturday jam during Zfest every year is NOT to showcase the "pros" from the Cleveland area at all. The Saturday jam is for all of the forum members and guests to get a chance to get up on stage and plug into a Z at gig volume and feels the amps out. There were never any plans for you to play an entire set. That will never happen. In fact, time was against me on Saturday, and literally right to the last minute, I was able to get everyone up on that stage who wanted to blow through a Z amp. We actually went over a bit on our allotted time. On Friday, you actually spent too much time playing the ZWreck when our people would have liked to have given it a try. That won't happen again next year. Zfest is for everyone to enjoy, not just a few. All future "grumbling", please respond via PMs.

Don, the lifespan of a Plymouth Turtle may be 45 years, but a Plymouth Duster only averaged about 7.
Just sayin'

I enjoyed it all the way from Fla. I might not had such a good time if I had actually gone if I would have been one of thise unlucky ones not able to try out the amp.
So did anyone straight out rock this thing in power cord fashion? Alot can be known about a amp in a couple cool power cords. A little bit of lead work is cool, but I like hearing the amp not the player that does a bunch of flashy stuff.

For the record, DR Z asked me to play a short set with or without Butch Armstrong before the Jammers. And when I saw how many people were waiting, I did two tunes and shook DR Z's hand and left and said thank you. Let's move on people.....

I'm with you ! the amp is just plain killer. I'd like to here more about the Supro/Anthem amp too....I think it would also be a great addition to the Z line-up. I liked the 6V6 version myself. Anyone know what the old Supro's used for power tubes? I'm guessing 6V6 as well....

For the record, I had a blast... And thank you Frankie, that was me you played Bass for some with English John at the VFW ( mostly John playing really if you wanna call what I was doing playing, lol ) and sorry for letting you know AFTER we got through we were tuned down 1/2 a step. I think as Z Fest get's bigger it's just gonna be a little harder logistically on the guy's like Don and I saw what a nightmare it was for him at times, but he pulled it off and everybody envolved did a great job. and even though I'd like to Jam... I for one don't mind giving up my spot at the Jam for someone who hasn't played up there before. But that a few of us weren't there, it may have been my favorite Z fest... and the fact that we were able to give a little back through the Raffle ( and do what I think we we do best, that we do here on the forum... which is giving) at Z fest was cool... I've already seen a couple of comments from members who couldn't make it say that by participating in the raffle they got to be a part of Z fest even though they couldn't go... which was also a part of the idea behind the raffle... AND without starting another Thank You thread which i didn't want to do, I wanna say thanks to Harvey and Janice for their help with the Raffle... I could not have done it at Brothers with out them. Lets all keep in mind and remember the positive things that went on ( and there was so many) at Z fest and build on that for next year to be even better... I think we should all Remember it's not Me Fest... it's Z FEST!! and NOW back to the Z wreck... I still feel more than ever... it is a like a cross between the Stingray and the RX ES with the best of both amps somehow rolled into one... to me the Z wreck is like playing those two amps together on at the same time. it is as glorious as the ray for cleans and can be as punchy and mean as the RX for some hair. WONDERFUL AMP to play and as much about how it feels to the player as how it sounds! .02 Jason

Hmmm. The Z-Wreck is described as a cross between a Stingray (Stangray) and a Prescription ES...
That sounds mighty fine to me!!!
I think it will be a great seller for Dr. Z. Like the Monza, I think it sounds as if it will give you a very "direct to the speakers" type of sound.

If you want to see a great demo of the 'Wreck you can't do better than the Dr. Z DVD. Brad shows exactly the kind of dynamics this amp offers. Amy said on the way home "it's loud but it's really......clear". Her way of saying what I call "clean and dirty at the same time". The distortion is so smooth and the transition from clean to dirty is so gradual and controllable that your brain doesn't say "that's distortion!"...until you get it WFO like Trock or Eric....even then the OD is pleasant. Even Fogerty likes it....

... Also i believe it was the doc that said this, that the amp pretty much peaks at a certain volume and after that it just gets dirtier not louder... That sounds like one of the design outcomes of a "Trainwreck." My understanding is that a Trainwreck goes from 0 to loud in one click, so you end up using your guitar volume for clean to dirty tones. Did anybody use one of the attenuators (Brake lite or Airbrake) with the Z-wreck? Just wondering what that might be like. Here's a great description of a Trainwreck Express done by Ken Kuykendall. (His description of the meat of the amp sound starts around 5:40 in the vid.) Any of you guys that played the Z-wreck care to comment on how the Z-wreck compares to this description? BTW, Isn't that LP a beaut? Wow

I listened to that video...very interesting. Isn't Youtube great? Anyway, I would say there is some commen ground, but the one in the vid has EL-34, and the Zwreck (Ibelieve) are EL84's, correct me if I'm wrong....The Zwreck does have that type of compression element he describes, and the ability to go from clean to mean by adjusting the guitar volume.....and endless degrees of in-between sounds. I never played an amp like it. And I never really dug Vox amps. This ZWreck is it's own animal, and like all the other DRZ amps, it has that DRZ sidnature.....like if you were to hear it withouit seeing it think, hmmm DR Z?

The ZWreck does use EL84's just like the StangRay which I thought it was a super tweaked out version of, maybe I am wrong.. ? So far I think it sounds pretty good... Am still waiting for the official Z-Wreck video from the Doc.... Anyone have a clue who is going to demo it?? I thought it was almost done and ready to post..? ?
