I was just wondering if anyone had tried using a Heavy Electronics Descend pedal with the SRZ-65? This would create a "clean" channel for the SRZ which has me interested.
You see, after a gig last night where I just didn't have the clean headroom I was looking for (with humbuckers) I am thinking about using a reverse boost (descend) pedal so that I can still take advantage of the singing gain tones from the SRZ, but not necessarily have to bring a clean amp or turn my volume on my guitar up and down- that is just hard for me due to singing. Anyone?

My experience with the Descend is that it works very much like turning down the guitar's volume knob but without losing any high end in the signal. Kind of like an external treble bleed mod effect combined with a drop in volume/gain. Might be exactly what you are looking for.

Jamie- tell me more...please!!! Also, have you tried the Descend? It seems like it might be a suitable alternative for some gigs (rather than lugging around my EZG-50).

Paul Gilbert uses a single channel Marshall and uses his eq to turn the gain down. It's all you need really. Turn down the output level and adjust the highs to compensate.
I have KT88's in my amp with 5751's to give me a little more headroom. I boost if i need it.

Hey SRZ players! Help me here. I thought this amp was 60 watts. With that much power, there is not enough clean headroom? How can that be? How loud are you guys playing? I assumed you could get about as much natural tube distortion outta this amp at about any volume you wanted. I guess that's incorrect. Enlighten me.

That's the Beauty of Having an amp that has more wattage = More head room, If you want a clean sound what I use to do before the Stangray I use now, with a Radial Headbone switcher by the way is KILLER! Just set your Gain to about 10:00 oclock and crank the volume. I would use three gain stages one being like a Compressor or just clean boost, The 2nd was for a lil more hair and the Third was for blistering high gainish tones , But this requires research and time to figure out what you actually need. I am now using 1 OD with the SRZ, The SRZ loves Pedals, its the only amp that I have ever owned that any pedal makes it sound like its a part of the Circuits! I'm using a really speacial DIY! CLONE of a Klon, ITs a Bad Boy, it gives me that Plexish tone form the SRZ! The SRZ hands down for covering alot of ground is the SRZ END OF STORY! Check out Butch From Z fest! I sat right in front of the 60watss gain cranked to 12 and it was like holy smokes straight in the amp. A Timmy or similar would send it into Mayhem! If you are an SRZ Owner You best Hang on too it! )))) Jamie

You may take an ABY Pedal and try one of those Boss 65 Deluxe Reverb Pedals or the Bassman Clone , I have heard this done with Marshall amps That are not so Clean user friendly. Its hard to go from a 67' Super or my Stangray which are very clean until they are Cranked. The SRZ Can produce decent cleans, a good quality chorus maybe an EQ but I just haven't any luck with EQ's they add gain or fizziness. (((( Keep me posted I wasnt to see what works for you , I may want to give a try! If nothing works??? It may be a 6545? Ha Ha!

Dude, Musacman, thanks. But next time reply, THEN smoke the doobie. Didn't quite get an answer to my question: is there not much clean headroom in this 60 watt EL34 amp? Hard to imagine there not being buckets of headroom for clean or dirty sounds in tis amp! Thanks,

I would say that with a single coil equipped guitar, and the proper settings (gain low, master high), the SRZ-65 has some clean headroom- I assume CLEAN is what you are asking about. However, not a bunch. It really is a gain machine, begging for you to try the various combination's of semi-dirty, crunchy and full on distortion.
If you are looking for a clean amp, to be used as a platform for pedals go with an EZG-50 or a KT-45 or even a Route 66. While the SRZ-65 does take pedals (especially boost pedals) very well, I would recommend taking advantage of the built in gain stages of the amp, rather than using lots of pedals with it. But this is my personal preference, and doesn't work for everyone.
It is one loud 60-65 watt amp. It will rock your face off.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm always interested in an amp that can get clean and overdriven tones. Love silky smooth distortion when the guitar is nutted, and clean it up a bit when backed off for rhythm. And I wanna be able to do that at home levels and at stage levels with more than enough headroom to keep up with a hard hitting drummer. Does the SRZ do this in spades?

SRZ, clean and overdriven tones? Yes. Is it a "Super Reverb on 3 clean?" No.
But the "cleanish" sound the SRZ-65 can produce is excellent. Highly addictive and authoritative.
Said it before, but again, the master volume is incredible! You can get good sounds at ANY volume level. I don't really use the volume knobs on my guitars (too hard to do that for me while singing, stepping on pedals, trying to not fall over, etc.) so I can't attest to the roll off the gain for a clean tone method with the SRZ. I bet other guys on here can say if that works on the SRZ and my hunch is that it works very well, knowing Z amps.
The SRZ-65 and the Remedy are the way to go for Marshall type sounds from Dr. Z... Now I just gotta get a Descend pedal, since no one on this forum seems to have tried one, with the SRZ.
